Thinking of rooting 1.7 Nook Classic

So I've had a Nook Classic for a couple years now, but haven't used it for the last year or so. I'm thinking it's time to play with rooting it, but it looks like the scene died out too soon and there isn't a solid rooted 1.7 ROM out there?

I don't like the idea of having to downgrade to something based on an older official ROM.

I've heard that it's possible to run the official 1.7 and still be rooted. Is this worth doing?

HunerZ, if you are still considering, I was able to root the nook - as of the past 24 hours and it is still 1.7 (my sn is 1010....). Although freshly rooted, I am currently trying to find how to understand app installing and how to activate them. So it can be rooted easily (at least in my case). I have a thread going that I'll update from time-to-time with my experiences since I currently can't seem to find find similar threads.

HunterZ, since last post I've confirmed the nook is rooted and have discovered that the apps need a launcher (duh....) before they can be launched. I installed ru.mynook.launcher.apk using jackr's bat file and made the necessary connections and the apps I loaded work - although I'm still "noobing" my way through them.

The thread created which I hope to up date my experiences is at:
