Transferring downloaded ebooks to new kindle color
Hi,
I have preordered the new Kindle color, but I just read that it will no longer be possible to sideload ebooks. I am not sure what sideload actually means? With my current paperwhite I send ebooks to my kindle e-mail through calibre or just through my phone. Will that no longer be possible? If I can only read amazon bought books then the kindle color is not interesting to me. |

As far as I know, what you use shoudln't be affected. Sideload means you take something on one side and you load it on the device.
Please correct me if I'm wrong. For people with only the new kindle registered to their account, what impossible is the Download&Transfer. That means downloading the file from the Amazon website to your computer. I don't really know what you mean by "I send ebooks". I only know that if you get them by Donwload&Transfert, you should be OK as long as your previous paperwhite is still registerd on your Amazon account for now. If you're loading books by using your kindle e-mail, you should be ok for now as well. I don't use calibre with my kindle so I'll let other people tell about it. |

It is not possible to download books from Amazon anymore, as in “get physical copy of the book (to do other stuff with it before sideloading onto Kindle)”
Don’t confuse it with sideloading. At least, this what was discussed. The actual status of sideloading itself is pending live reviews, of course |

This is sideloading - you should be able (I guess?).
What you described is not Download & Transfer that is missing now. |

If you have a pre-2024 Kindle registered to your Amazon account, Download & Transfer via USB (D&T) works. If you only have 2024 Kindle(s) registered to your account, D&T will not work. So as long as you keep one older Kindle, and do not trade it in for a discount, you'll still be able to use D&T. Just make sure you keep at least one Kindle Keyboard (aka K3) (and no earlier Kindles), you'll be good. As for side-loading, I'm thinking it could just be a matter of adding the new 2024 Kindles to calibre's Scribe's MTP driver. |

How about let's keep things simple, as the original poster should have done?
If you have a library of ebooks in Calibre (from whatever source), that do not have DRM, and which have been converted to AZW3 or KFX, is it the common wisdom that the new 12th gen line of Kindles will be able to connect with Calibre and will allow you to transfer your library to it? |

I have some epubs that I created myself. The content is also very old articles, magazines (about 10 years old) that I like and retyped myself. I only use it for personal purposes, not to share with others.
If transferring ebooks via cable becomes more difficult? Can I use Send to Kindle to transfer to the device and store it? Is that a violation? Thanks for reading. |

I haven't read everything about how you're supposed to handle your kindle but I guess if it's your own work it shouldn't be any problem. Could someone more experienced confirm please ? |

There is no problem with USB cable if you never turn on WiFi. |

Sideloading works just fine with the new Kindles.
I tested it myself on the Paperwhite 2024 using Calibre. Regarding Send to Kindle, Amazon doesn't give a rat's ass what you send. Our corporate overlord is still benevolent. |
