There's no hard data yet, because it doesn't come out until December. All we have to go on is what Amazon says in PR and marketing. So far, it's not a fully new device and Amazon calls it: Kindle Scribe 1st generation - 2024 release. It's just the redesign of the front glass and bezels, a new stylus, and new software (which is also coming to the first Scribe). There are claims about the screen being refined but no actual confirmed specifics on what it actually is.

Hi all
I got my PaperWhite Signature Edition 12th this morning. I already had a Kobo Libra Colour but... I had already a lot of books from Amazon so it makes sense to me. However, it seems I can't download the books to transfer them through USB even with the proper registration of my Kindle on the Amazon website. It's weird, it worked with a PaperWhite 11th gen. Weird thing too... about 24~25 GB of data free on the 32GB version of the PaperWhite. Quote:
The Kobo Libra Colour has it enabled and your can lock it. With the last Signature Edition : nothing (actually I don't like it so it doesn't bother me). Hope this info can help you! |

Who knows what's inside the OS In my eyes, this 12th gen PaperWhite is definitely faster than the 11th and I hand-handle it better ; it must be thanks to the slightly bigger dimensions. @mergen3107 I've just done it. Sorry I overstepped, I just wanted people to know the new generation could potentialy have this functionnality removed (download and transfer). That's at least what the customer service told me (it could have been removed). |

This is an old battle of GB vs GiB
32 “GB” advertised on the box is in computer terms 29.8 GiB. Calculation is following: GiB = (32 GB)*(1000/1024)^3 (power of three for Gigabytes) Then, you have system files, usually a few GiB… |

What we do know is that when exported, Notebooks and Print Replica handwritten notes are rasterized to page images in the PDF with dimensions 1860 x 2480. This is exactly the pixel dimensions of the Scribe. So if there are more pixels on the newer Scribe the export of the same document will be different than when exported from the original, unless they scale down to the older scribe dimensions. But cloud should be storing only one document version, not two. It should not be scaling up and down all the time depending on which device last edited it. But the physical dimensions are different, so even if pixels are the same there are some issues. What unit is used for storing pen stroke coordinates? is it based on physical unit or pixel unit or % unit? How will notebook created on the original Scribe be rendered on the new one and vice versa? Templates also have a fixed canvas size, expressed in pixels. If the pixel dimensions are different then the templates will be different. This is why I think number of pixels is same. There are still issues but they don't seem as serious. @jhowell might have some insight here. |

You're switching them up, they were talking about paperwhite from 6,8" to 7". Scribe is always the same although at first it seemed a little bigger thanks to the white sides.
@tomsem I know there were always a certain variations per panel. Just stating what im currently seeing reported by more people, and the same is not happening for base kindle. I don't know if it's an issue, some people actually say it's more "true to paper" and are associating this difference to the renewed layer they mention they used that makes the new paperwhite so responsive. Just thought it would be an info id like to know if other in here verified |
