At those prices it's worth buying an old broken Kindle for super cheap off of ebay and using that for the trade-in just to get the 20% discount, along with the $5 they give as a minimum. At least that way the PW4 is still available or could be resold for much more than the $30.

just tried on kindle a while ago with manga, i just find like i'm losing something on the experience. But it might be me being picky... I waited for scribe to start and read manga on a screen. Comics i read some on 10" tablet but prefer paper in general.

I have not read paper comics in many years, but I find reading them on my iPad Pro absolutely beautiful and vibrant, in a way I never found paper comics to be. I'm always pausing to admire and soak in the beauty. eInk color does not offer that 'wow' experience and probably never will but it adds versatility and it's just nice to see color cover thumbnails and images instead of greyscale ones and being able to have highlights in color. Also interesting was when he demoed the summarize mode and there were some interesting claims about Kindle sales (I assume from the meeting he attended) shown. Though that may just have been doodling.

I wonder if the the pen from the old scribe will work on the new one, and also if it uses the same nibs. It would be nice to have a backup.

It does work on all Scribes. The Scribe uses Wacom EMR so any EMR stylus should just work.

Looking at the differences, the new stylus also makes up for most of the pricing difference to the original Scribe with 16 GB and the basic stylus. The new release seems to *only* include the new Premium Stylus Pen. The OG Scribe with the basic pen is $329, but adding the OG Premium pen bumps it to $369.99. The old Premium pen costs $59.99 on its own and the new one costs $79.99 - $20 extra. So, after accounting for the new Premium pen the cost of the redesigned Scribe is $10 extra. Not sure where that cost is going but it's not the huge jump I thought it was when I was under the impression that the new 16 GB would still come with the Basic pen.

The new scribe really just seems the exact same thing(after all it's still 1 gen like people noticed), just with white bezels , and im wondering if isn't it actually worst to have an actual white next to the greyish white of the eink? never had white ereaders

It's true the most popular format for manga volume is tankobon, and that's around a 8" ereader, that is slightly smaller. I was going for a sage at first, but eventually changed my mind cause the idea to have the pro of scribe like best contrast at the time, nice battery and bigger size was nice. "deluxe" volumes of manga are usually released as kanzeban, that are around the 10" size of scribe, so it works pretty nice, + if you really want you can read in horizontal and actually have like an actual classic manga open. I agree with you on comic books they're actually very nice on tablets, some more than others. I don't share the same feelings on the colors in eink though, i rarely use higlights and i don't really care about the versatility of this extra, like i have this view that we already have lot of different device like phones , tablets, pc where we are continuosly searching for more versatility and cool advanced feature while I was actually kinda fascinated by ereader at first by how much of a "simple" objects they were. Here take this and start to read books . So it really feel a lot of stuff is superfluos to me, and I can't really follow, especially when there's a loss on reading experience quality to add these extra features like it happens with color right now. |

New white Scribe looks very much like reMarkable 2 now
And yes, white bezel will make a starker contact between actual “plastic” white and eink Carta 646372848 white |

The new bezel design surely eliminates the 'gap' that some found worrisome. I think perhaps original design was to waterproof and the gap would have had some gasket like Paperwhite's, but they ran into manufacturing issues. Instead of moving ahead with a waterproof design, they just fixed the bezel. Overall the new lineup offers only modest changes from the previous one. - the Basic still does not have warm light, and is still 11th generation (did anything change?) - the Scribe is still 1st generation, only a bezel change - Paperwhite looks the same, just is faster and bumps to 12th generation. - Colorsoft SE has same appearance as Paperwhite with color display and internals to handle that. |

To be fair. the new Paperwhite and Colorsoft SE do have slightly larger screens back to the size of the Oasis 2/3). Not a major difference, but worth noting.
