Are there any reports about the screen quality of the new Paperwhite? Is the lighting consistent, without problematic blotchiness, blueish/pinkish tinge, uneven lighting at the top of the screen etc? I've seen reports that it's warmer than the previous model, which is not an issue for me.

One friend from Washington state I've been swapping emails with says that his new Paperwhite 6 shows as a registered device but while he can D&T using his Paperwhite 4 as the destination device, his Paperwhite 6 does not allow him to do so. Amazon first level support has been less than useful.

I got the impression from the compare chart on the Amazon site that the auto-adjusting light was a feature of the SE version only. Did I misunderstand? ApK Last edited by ApK; 10-21-2024 at 08:30 PM. |

Since amazon won't tell us directly but state a better contrast on the new models, is anyone trying comparisons with carta 1300 devices like kobo clara bw?
I got a new base one, Personally i feel it's the best looking screen i have seen, but i cannot really compare directly. My comparison is against scribe that is carta 1200 true but also has more layers on top of the eink. |

Up to 12 weeks on the battery?
I know that they go on 30 minutes reading per day, but that's still ludicrous. If I have to hold the thing I'd rather have a battery half the size. Last edited by Renate; 10-21-2024 at 08:43 PM. |

Not particularly germane, but here is an Onyx Poke5 vs a new Go6 (a/k/a Poke6) with Carta 1300. Both are 6" 300 DPI capacitive touch with frontlight.

On the opposite side Amazon already had a device with 130 grams and (up to) 7 hours of battery life. It was not very popular. (As I am a heretic in the world of e-readers, I still keep it next to my Paperwhite 5).

For kindle basic should be a comparison with a clara bw since they're both recessed. I'm sure someone will come out with it sooner or later, |

The display on the Go6 is clearly labelled ED060KC6, Carta 1300.
The display on my Poke5 is not clearly labelled. I bought it as soon as it came out. Onyx Russia says in 4PDA here (in Russian): Quote:

I was hoping they'd have an updated Oasis though. I'm lucky to get 12 hours on mine. I was holding out for page turn buttons because touchscreens do not work quite as well with the way I read (accidental highlights, page turns, dictionary lookups, etc.). |

This is much less of a problem with page turn buttons. Since the Oasis does have a touchscreen it is possible, but you don't accidentally depress the page turn buttons (which isn't hard to do but usually requires intent), and your hand is usually positioned on the buttons so going across the touchscreen is less likely (and you can lock touchscreen out on the Oasis if you want). Now it may be that it's not a great idea to read in bed until you fall asleep but that would be a huge lifestyle change for me at this point. |

Not that it's a virtue or anything, but I never fall asleep reading. When the neurons stop firing I close the ebook, put it away and go to sleep.
