No More $99 Kindles?
Unless I'm overlooking them, I don't see the KKSO wifi version on Amazon's site. Do you think Amazon will discontinue them?

Probably just means that it's out of stock; it's happened before.

She might try looking locally if she can't wait. I've seen them in several Target stores in the past week. I was surprised at the amount of stock for all the Kindle models and Nooks too. I thought they might be difficult to find during the holiday season.

When has Amazon said that they're going to continue making the keyboard models? Why do people expect that they will?
Those models aren't in the main Kindle menu, now they're out of the SO version. Doesn't it look more like they're selling them out? I'd like it, too, if they'd continue making them, but Amazon has given no indication that they're going to, as far as I know. |

Interesting. It does not say that it is not available right now but it has a link to other sellers.

Looks like they are no longer available. Those not wanting to make the transition from the Keyboard may have grabbed what they could.

Web search shows it is US$99.99 at www.toysrus.com with free shipping. Plus you get a $10 future use store credit.
I vote with those who think Amazon wants to phase out Keyboard models. But they are keeping their options open. |

Apparently you can opt in to the Special Offers (and get $30 to do so?):

I wrote Amazon and asked about this model a couple of weeks ago and they said no longer available due to high customer demand and suggested I look at the new Kindles - if you want one of these, best find one at a brick and mortar store or buy a refurbed one real quick. I think they're going, going . . .

I am having a hard time parting with my K2, just in case my K3 fails... Seeing as the new devices are limited, 3G wise

They made a reasonable effort to rebrand the Kindle Keyboard from just being "Kindle" and I don't think they would have done that unless they had plans to keep it around for a while. Here in the UK, the regular $79 Kindle is really seen as a budget option - the Kindle Keyboard 3G is the premium product in the line. In terms of sales, the Kindle Keyboard (Wi-Fi and 3G models) are still outselling the Kindle Touch (without offers) on Amazon.com Last edited by Daveoc64; 12-07-2011 at 09:06 AM. |

In Germany, the cheapest Kindle is 99 EUR (about 133 USD) for the Wifi version without keyboard and touchscreen (no special offers).
