I ended up getting the Walmart+ membership when it was discounted last December and it's a good deal if you shop there regularly. The scan-and-go feature in the app ended up being my favorite feature. I can bag my groceries up as I shop and then checkout only takes seconds. (Unless they've mysteriously closed most of the registers, requiring you and everyone else to wait in line ten minutes. That happened recently.)

They've added a 25% discount at Burger King when making digital orders since last year. I don't live close enough to one (or like enough of their menu) to use that, but it could be a really good bonus. I rarely use the free deliveries (still need a $35 minimum), but when I needed them they really came in handy. Also, often something you order via shipping (free shipping with no minimum order) ends up being delivered from the local store, but treated like shipping so there's no minimum order. The gas discount is good as well, 10 cents off a gallon can really add up.

On the other hand, while I don't watch much TV I did try out the free Paramount+ membership and... they show way, way too many ads. I watched a couple of episodes of Star Trek: Lower Decks that are roughly 30 minutes each. There were pre-roll ads, four ad breaks during each episode and attempted post-roll ads that I skipped by exiting out and starting the next episode manually. I don't consider that a benefit and it amazes me anyone would pay for the ad-supported tier of Paramount+ when it's that bad. If your ad tolerance is higher maybe it'll be a good benefit for you, though. Also on that gas discount, I have yet to find a single Exxon or Mobile station in my area that participates. That means I always miss out when they do a promo doubling the gas discount, since the doubling doesn't happen at Murphy stations.

Still, at $49 a year it's a good deal and worth considering. Here's a full list of the benefits it provides.
I also have a $49/year membership; it has a few months to run, and I won't renew. I do not have a nearby Walmart--or a car--so my experience is limited to online shopping. Grocery shopping is hit-or-miss; the prices are better than Amazon Fresh but the fulfillment leaves a lot to be desired. I place my order, and then once the shopper begins shopping, I'm lucky to get half my items and I end up buying from Amazon Fresh anyway. So the price advantage is illusory when Walmart doesn't seem to have good inventory control. A couple of weeks ago, Walmart delivered a grocery order only SEVEN hours late (past 11 p.m.) after telling me the order would instead arrive the next day.

Today I had an enormous hassle when I wanted to return a purchase; Walmart+ membership is supposed to allow me to have an item picked up from my home for free. Except after scheduling my pickup, Walmart instead sent me a FedEx return label and told me I needed to drop off the item at a FedEx location. Which is inconvenient (no car, bulky and awkward item to return). Took three phone calls and about an hour to finally have Walmart decide they could schedule a FedEx pickup.

Say what you will about Amazon, but at least Amazon is mostly efficient. Walmart has been one hassle after another, and the "perks" of Walmart+ have not been worth it.

A lot will depend on how good or bad your local Walmart is, definitely. For me Amazon Fresh isn't even an option, Walmart's the only place that does grocery deliveries at all in my area. I don't live out in the boondocks or anything, it's just the grocery stores are in a different town in the county. My town only has Walmart and an IGA.

Amazon has gotten a lot crappier on returns. It used to be they'd credit your account as soon the UPS store scanned your code for your return, now it's a week or more before they do so. Plus you have to go to a UPS store or a Whole Foods to drop off an item to get free returns, otherwise you have to pay a return shipping fee. It works okay for me, since I have to go to a doctor's appointment every month and can drop stuff off while I'm out for that, but otherwise Amazon's returns would not be free for me at all. The closest UPS store's a fifteen minute drive and the closest Whole Foods is forty-five minutes away. It's actually easier to do a return at Walmart for me (only five minutes away) and it goes back to my credit card right away (unless I used a gift card) instead of having to go to store credit to get a "quick" now) refund. I haven't tried the return from home option.

My "local" Walmart is a half-hour drive away, and I don't have a car. Before the Walmart+ membership I only purchased items that could be shipped to me (though sometimes Walmart opted to deliver them from the store). I don't believe I'd ever done a Walmart return before the recent one--I'd had damaged items that they told me not to bother returning.

I don't have a Whole Foods nearby, or a UPS store, but there is a UPS dropoff just around the corner that I've used for Amazon free returns. Only once did I have an issue. I return items very infrequently, but I believe I've always been credited as soon as the label is scanned, though it may take the credit card issuer a few days. I don't hold Amazon responsible for that delay.

I don't do a lot of returns either and the experience you describe is how it worked up until about six months ago. Since then, even though I'm using the "quicker" refund option of receiving Amazon gift card credit every return has taken over a week from dropping it off at a UPS store to receiving that credit. There's no delay due to a credit card company involved in this at all.

Since I don't return much it can't be them punishing me for a high rate of returns, so either they're punishing me for switching to monthly instead of a yearly sub (I kind of doubt it, they get more money that way) or they have intentionally made the return process worse.

How does the holiday price match policy work?

Shop early, shop with confidence this holiday season. Starting November 7, 2024, if you purchase an item in store or online and the price goes lower at Target on or before December 24, 2024, you can request a price match. Proof of purchase is required for price adjustments.

Know the price-matching policies for Best Buy, Walmart, and others
Quote:
With Black Friday and Cyber Monday approaching, we’re here to let you know which retailers will go the extra mile on your behalf.

Oct 30, 2024

Nothing is more frustrating than buying a new pair of headphones, an OLED TV, or a laptop just to find out that you could have gotten it for a lot cheaper somewhere else. That’s why, in order to keep customers happy and prevent them from going elsewhere, many retailers offer price-matching policies in which they promise to match a lower price found elsewhere. That kind of information comes in handy no matter the time of year, but it’s especially helpful during shopping events like Black Friday and Cyber Monday.

What follows are the price-matching policies for a variety of major retailers. There are a few things to make note of here. First, all price-matching policies have a number of rules attached to them. We’ve summarized some of the rules here, but we recommend going to the links that we’ve provided and reading the policies carefully. Second, most retailers that serve as marketplaces for other sellers, such as Costco and Sam’s Club, don’t have price-matching policies, and many traditional stores won’t match their prices.

Veterans Day Sales
Quote:
Lots of stores will be having typical holiday sales where all shoppers are welcome. But the vast majority of the sales listed below are only for people who have served or are currently serving in the military. The biggest thing about tomorrow is the free meals offered by numerous restaurants. Click on the links below for participating businesses.

Proof of former or current military service will be required.

Veterans Day restaurant deals 2024 -- exp 11 Nov

More than 80 discounts, including free meals

Restaurants across the country have specials for Veterans Day on Monday as a way to honor the sacrifices of veterans and active-duty military personnel.

The federal holiday is held annually on Nov. 11 to mark the end of World War I when the Allies and Germany signed an armistice agreement on Nov. 11, 1918. Fighting ended on the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month, according to the Department of Veterans Affairs.

Most discounts require proof of service, such as a form of veteran, military or military-dependent identification – such as a Veteran ID Card or DD214 card showing your time of service – at the time of purchase. Many offers are limited to dine-in guests as well. Always check with your closest location to confirm participation.

2024 Veterans Day Free Meals and Deals -- exp 11 Nov

Veterans Day 2024 is Monday, Nov. 11. Many restaurants and businesses offer free meals, deals and other freebies for veterans and military members to show their appreciation to those who served our nation.

As you plan your day, keep in mind that businesses offering free meals or discounts will ask for proof of service. Typically a driver’s license with a veteran designation, military ID, or U.S. Uniform Services Retired ID Card is sufficient.

Please note: Franchises like McDonald’s and Subway offer deals only at participating locations. Individual franchisees may set their own discount policies or choose not to offer any. We recommend calling ahead to confirm availability.

2024 Veterans Day Free Meals and Restaurant Deals and Discounts -- exp 11 Nov

Looking for Veterans Day restaurant military discounts for 2024? This list will be updated regularly as new discounts come in.

All of the discounts have been confirmed, either through press release or direct communication with the company. Check out all the other discounts being offered this Veterans Day.

Keep in mind that most businesses require proof of military service. Not sure what type of ID you need to prove that you're a veteran? We compiled a list of common types of veteran identification.

Not all franchise locations participate in their national chain's Veterans Day programs -- be sure contact your nearest establishment to make sure they are participating.
