I checked the various clocks in the house and only one of them does not automagically update for the time switch. Heck, even the stove does so. I guess I will have to give the rice cooker and the car some TLC on Sunday.

I wonder what would happen if everyone just ignored DST and started showing up for work or school at the wrong time.

Not that much. We used to have some staff and students show up early after the fall change and late after the spring change. Though it's harder to claim ignorance these days when most of your devices will automatically change.

But why do you love it? I do think saying that everybody "hates" it is probably an overstatement; I know folks hate having to do the fall back, yadda, stuff for a day or so but it's a relatively minor change in that arena. Hitch |

That hour of daylight in spring and summer. I'm a total night-owl by nature and I love those long, long summer evenings here, when it's light outside until nearly midnight. In winter it doesn't matter, because it's dark by 3 or 4 p.m. anyway.

I love DST. The change is my least favorite day of the year.
First I'll note that DST/ST is close to a 2/3 to 1/3 split on the year, since DST runs from the middle of March to the beginning of November, i.e., nearly eight months (the exact length depends on the dates of the Sundays). People here, with few exceptions, love DST. We're in the northeastern part of the time zone, so our days skew early at best. Longer afternoons, light in the evening, these are conducive to being outside and indulging in leisure activities. |

DST is seven months here - from the last Sunday in March to the last Sunday in October. Never in the middle of March or in November.
I didn't even know there are different transition times in different countries. |

"Thank you for participating in this survey. Unfortunately it has reached its target number of participants and is now closed."
This is after I answered all their questions. They kicked me out without compensation. I wonder what the chances are they kept the answers anyways. Last edited by ownedbycats; 11-14-2024 at 02:34 AM. |

Letting the emails in the inbox pile up until it's too much a mess go to through.

I don't sort or categorise most of my emails (except for those set up for automatic labeling). Search has always been quite sufficient for me to find what I need, even a decade later. I get too many emails to manually sort them, as I'm a member of the internal mailing list of a small non-profit organization. |

oh bloody hell
It didn't take long after this for everything else to devolve into a flashing pink disco. Then the game crashed. Last edited by ownedbycats; 11-18-2024 at 05:34 PM. |

I'm seriously considering a kindle but for my needs they are useless unless you're OK with being a mobile data satellite for bezos. They lock you out of core functionality if you don't register the device, including but not limited to:
- dictionary downloads - sorting your book into collections - vocabulary builder and potentially more. For a device that costs hundreds of dollars I find that utterly unacceptable. There may be a way to circumvent it but I'm unsure if that is relevant for the current firmware versions. Also its been suggested that the device phones home even if unregistered, however I'm yet to fully confirm that claim. So if you value your privacy and don't want to sell your soul to amazon in exchange for the 'privilege' of reading on 'your' device that you paid hundreds of dollars for, I'd probably steer clear of kindle or be prepared to jump through serious hoops in order to bypass all the nonsense. Kobo probably isn't much better in that regard but you can bypass the registration and sideload everything without ever having to connect it to the internet or compromise functionality so in my mind that's a serious win |
