Nook Glowlight 4 - Disable Touch Screen?
Hello! I'm new to the forum but a dedicated e-reader since 2006 or so.
Over the years I've owned many Bookeen Cybook Opuses and Sony Pocket Editions, but they all eventually died. (The screens on the Bookeens, and the batteries on the Sonys.) I recently bought a Nook Glowlight 4, because it seemed to be the only new small ereader with physical buttons (a requirement of mine). It also allowed sideloading, which is another requirement of mine. I'd like to disable the page turning by touch screen because I carry my reader around the house and accidentally touch the screen with my thumb all. the. damn. time. I don't need any features which aren't built into the Glowlight 4 beyond this. I've worked with game mods (though haven't made any of my own), but have never 'modded' a reader. Any basic instructions on how to do this for me? Thank you so much! SaintGenevieve |

Undoubtedly the touch screen can be enabled and disabled.
But there are all sorts of questions of how you might re-enable it. The simplest would be to modify your reading app not to pay attention to screen action. Then you would have full touch outside of when you're reading your book. If your reading app of choice is the stock reader it gets complicated. If you use a third-party reader (like KOReader) it's easy. |

KOReader is not compatible with Nook, and I'd rather use different ereader software than one that (like KOReader, purportedly) would require me to root my device.
Any suggestions for a program I can use with my Nook in lieu of the 'stock' program that would allow me to disable touch screen page turning? |

You can put KOReader on your Nook! And you don't even need to root it in order to do that. Here's some instructions on the process: https://www.mobileread.com/forums/sh...&postcount=349
I think the only extra thing to note is that they added one extra thing that you'd need to do around step 2. In order to enable USB Debugging, I think there's now a password that you have to put in. I enabled it before they added the password, but from other posts, it sounds like that password is just the model name of your device (NOOK-BNRV1100 for the GL4). I'm not sure how to disable the touchscreen entirely, but I did see a setting in KOReader on my GL4e where I could uncheck two boxes to disable page turns by swipes and/or taps. That essentially locks page turning down to the physical buttons, but the touchscreen is still active for any menus/gestures. Last edited by halfsat; 10-30-2024 at 09:14 PM. |

I realize that you're probably not in the market for another eReader, but PocketBook readers have the ability to disable the touchscreen — plus they have buttons (which, of course, would be necessary if the touchscreen can be turned off).
