Need help jailbreaking new kindle
I recently exchanged my previous Kindle because of battery issues and the new one I got 5 minutes ago happens to have fw 5.8.9.2 I haven't connected it to internet even once after googling a lot I noticed that kindles with this fw or higher can be jail broken only by serial port but I have also read that a Kindle straight out of box could be jail broken could someone please tell me how that is possible btw my device is basic Kindle touch or KT3.if there is a possibility of jailbreaking except serial port method please let me know

Is it KT3 for sure? If so, you can use initial factory firmware 5.8.0 for software jailbreak.

Yes, it's KT3 and you can try:

Read the step by step instructions.
First download 5.8.0 for KT3 and transfer it to your kindle. After that you can install the jailbreak and the "hotfix" which will make the jailbreak persistent even if you update your firmware |

Btw is there a possibility of bricking the device even if I follow steps properly?

Yes there is. It looks like people are just trying and seeing if it works.
From what I gather some device downgrades result in partial bricks. Either the screen will not work properly, or the USB will only be accessible for a short amount of time. Partial bricks can be fixed though and the jailbreak will also run on them. Full bricks can only be fixed through the serial jailbreak, or by sending the device to amazon for a replacement. |

Tug, first you should check if the .bin file is even accepted by your kindle. There is no risk of bricking
Download the file for KT3. (it is important it is 5.8.0 for KT3 and not another file) Check the md5 hash sum of the file and make sure it is the same as in the wiki. Copy the file into the main directory of your kindle. Safely unplug it. If the kindle accepts the file the menu "update your kindle" will appear. If it doesn't accept the file it will just delete it and not even give the option of pressing the button. (hence not allowing you to downgrade) |

No one has reported bricked KT3 so far.

Firmware from the threads above weren't available for download so I downloaded one after googling one checked MD5 it matched and now I have successfully downgraded it to 5.8.0.0 surprisingly it only took less than 5 min what should I do next.the thread you mentioned has a lot of jargon could you simplify it for me and tell me what's the next step for jailbreaking

Download the tar.gz file from here https://www.mobileread.com/forums/sh...d.php?t=275887
Place the file into the main USB folder. Safely eject your kindle Install the jailbreak by typing the following command into your kindle search bar ;installHtml After that you will need to download and install the hotfix which will make sure your device stays jailbroken even if you update Last edited by bozza111; 09-23-2018 at 09:25 AM. |

Nevermind since I was jailbreaking it from Android i had bit difficulty reading the entire thread but since no-one replied I read it and did exactly as it says after installing dummy file it says you are jailbroken only need to install hotfix package but I already did that. So am I free to update or not ? Is there something else that needs to be done

You have to install the hotfix package after the jailbreak.
And yes, if you installed it you can update your kindle. |
