Have you done a "chkdsk" of the internal file system and the SD card of your Gen3, Christine? The problems with bookmarks and not saving the last read position do seem to be associated with corrupt file systems - at least for many people.

Yes, I have; and I did again just now. It doesn't report any problems. I have tried whatever I've seen that seemed relevent. Nothing fixes it.

I added this to the wiki just now. You know a lot of stuff Harry. Why don't you go and add some things people can try?

I will do if I think of anything that's not there, but you've done a good job of covering the most common issues already!

You too talking about me behind my back !

Funny Christine , I was going to put all my books directly onto the Cybook 'cause my only spare card is a 16mb .....
- but if you have the problem with both card and main store ...

IF it's a file corruption , then that - to me - suggests something in the software is not quite working correctly , especially as it is seemingly happening to more than a few of us . Harry , perhaps , is just plain lucky ..

One day all the marks are there , on another day none of them are , then back the next , and that's without any USB hookup to computer . Last page very rarely works , but I put that down to perhaps moving between books ; I tend to read a different one at night , than I do during the day .

I suppose it's possible, but I think it's rather unlikely. I probably use bookmarks more than most people, because virtually everything I read on my Gen3 are the books I've created myself, and I'm constantly using the bookmark feature to mark errors I spot when I'm reading, which I then go back and correct to create a new version of the book.

Your symptoms sound different from mine, and other people say that changing SD cards fixed it for them. It's worth a try to see if it helps. If you copy all three related files for the book you're reading, your bookmarks will be transferred.

I think mine might be related to RAM and so I've just put all my books on a card. I figure maybe if I free up more internal memory, it'll work better. I'll try it for a week and see if I notice a difference.

I use a 16mb card, it works fine and I've got over 20 books on it. I also have a 1 mb card.

Do you read more than 1 book at a time ?

Maybe you can try not to turn the Cybook off. If the problem occur without connecting the Cybook to a computer then turning it off and on would be the next suspect thing.

Yes, I generally have three or four on the go at once, and I'm bookmarking all of them.

Maybe the bug is triggered by some DRM on the books? Certain book format, which Harry doesn't read?

non-response on navigation key

I read Mobipocket-formatted ebooks from both BAEN and Gutenberg which are stored on my Cybook drive (not the SD which never worked) about 3-4 hours a day, with the flashing refresh turned off and the auto power off set to 30 minutes. At different battery life levels I have had recurring problems turning to the next page. This happens more frequently at 40% power, but also occurs at 80%, 70%, and 60%. I have not experienced this problem at 90 or 100% power, yet. I have checked that I have pressed the navigation control button the same way with the same pressure at the times of non-response. I have also tried to vary pressure and the location that I press on the button. I still have repeated incidents of non-response. With every book I read this happens at least twice:
Press right, wait, no-response, press right, wait, no-response, press lower right corner, double page turn, press back, continue reading!
When I press on the lower right corner, I can hear a double click. It is just an annoyance that briefly interrupts my reading, but the only time it did not change the page after three tries, my battery was too low. Then it worked after a recharge.
