Buying from Sony vs "local" store?
So, I want the white one.
One of the best internet stores here in Sweden have it in black, it's a little cheaper than the Sony store (just a bit) and they have quite good service so if there is any problem I'm confident they will help me. Can the same be said about Sony? If you get a problem with your reader, such as bad response from the touch or something similar, will they help you? It's not worth risking service for color, so what's your take? |

If your local store will exchange your reader (if it should be defective) then it may be worth going through them. Our Best Buy has a 30 day exchange policy, no questions. After that if it is defective they may do it depending what the problem is. And if your store has employes that are knowledgeable about e-readers, definitely go through your local store.
I never had problems with Sony, but many do. Plus if you have to return it to them, you will have to box it up & send it out. And I have found most Sony Support people know less about the readers than the people here at mobile read. Now all this is my opinion. Others may suggest otherwise. I never had any trouble with my PRS 350, but did with the T1 when it first came out. Have had no trouble with the new T1 I have since the firmware update. |

Call the Sony store in Sweden and ask them their return policy - ask them about timeframes for exchange, refund, return and their policy on the warranty, how long the warranty is, what it covers etc. Ask too what happens if you have issues with the reader after the return period is over. I found that the Sony store in Canada will only send it out for repairs. No exchange or refund. Do the same for the other store you're thinking about buying from. Then decide which works best for you & go from there.
Good luck!! |

I bought mine in person despite all the pre-Christmas on line sales going on because I lived near enough to the store and their policy was they would refund me fully if I needed to return it by 30 days. To me it was worth the extra little bit I paid. It too, was on sale from its regular price, and I also got to play with it out of the box since the demo was broken.

![]() In both cases I would have to SEND it since the other shop is also online. Browsing through this forum I've noticed some people having problem wit the Sony support but of course it can differ depending on where you live. |

Always get from retailer, local preferably - or on-line from somewhere you know has a good returns/warranty record - never from the big corporation. Your odds are much better ! ![]() |

I got mine from Sony Store UK, they even have educational discounts. I got it in one day, even before the sms notice it was shipped.

I paid 119 for the white listed for 129 - if I am not wrong - but I did not check as I just went straight to the edu store...

My own experience with Sony's customer service is abysmal, so if I were to choose again I would have bought it from a physical shop rather than their online shop.

I have bought Sony ereaders from their Sony Style store at my mall, from their online store and from local stores like Target. I have found it really doesn't make a difference. My advice is to buy from a store that you know offers exchanges or refunds without hassle.

All I can say is that I have bought 8 Sony ereaders over the years for myself and as gifts and never needed to exchange or return one. I think the purchases are something like 1 @ Borders, 2 @ Target, 1 @ Wal-Mart, 2 @ Sony online, 1 @ Sony store in my mall, and 1 @ Best Buy. I have seen others post recently that they were able to exchange and return their readers through the Sony help desk with no problems.
