Jon, ultimately, it's a question of nuance. Some, most people have a good sense of it; a few, alas, only see black and white.

In any case, it's not your worry.

I really wish Short Stories*(same author) and Our Favo(u)rite Books ha more votes. On the other hand it is nice to see science in the top 10.

Come on lurkers..! Vote before the poll is over. No point in regretting later

I hope so! There are plenty of good science books we can read, and they don't get enough attention some times.

As of right now, with 43 voters and just under 1 day remaining, these are the leading categories and there is no need for a run-off vote if this stands. No changes from two days ago except some internal ordering.
• Science Fiction 35
• Fantasy 27
• Mystery 24
• Thriller, Suspense & Crime 22
• Science 18
• Patricia Clarke Memorial Library 17
• History 17
• Award Winners (fiction) 16
• Humor 16
• Classics 16

The next group of categories has only 14 votes, so it will take at least 2 votes for either Biography/Memoirs or Horror or 3 votes for Short Stories (same) or War without a vote for at least one of Award Winners, Humor or Classics to force a run-off.

Lacking that, Karma to Dazrin for saving me the annoyance of trying to sort it out.

Isn't that being needlessly provocative? Because, as has been discussed, science fiction is not science, nor is historical fiction, history.

You've got science fiction. Why not let the science fact people have their innings, also?

A number of science fiction has predicted things that have come to be. Take Star Trek. We have automatic opening doors, Bluetooth headsets, cell phones all because of Star Trek.

I see no problem reading SF books where the some science has become reality.

Because of Star Trek?

I'll be silly in the same vein and mention Maxwell Smart's shoe phone. No, we don't have cell phones because of Get Smart, either, although it antedated Star Trek.

Sheesh, Jon, probability says that Sci Fi has to get some things right. It still doesn't make it science.

Yes, that's pretty much it. Waste of time to argue.

Actually a mobile telephone appeared in Sabrina (the version with Audrey Hepburn released in 1954).

The main point is that because Science Fiction may occasionally contain real science Fiction does not become non-Fiction. Nor for history. Little Women is still fiction even if the Civil War really happened.

We do have a lot of crossover. But since we will be having a science category, I know of some good books by a good author that can be nominated that do fit and will be a good read.
