Between the edits and the deletions in this thread I'm not quite sure what to believe. Why do all the editing and deleting if one isn't trying to back peddle a bit on what they've said?!?
PS - I still have the content of what you wrote in my email alert - I'm sure I'm not the only one that read it. |

Moderators,
I think it's about time to close this thread. The initial issue seems to have been addressed and resolved. Further discussion on this topic seems a bit futile imho. Cheers, Tom |

So in short, your account was closed due to returning too many items and you then opened another account which was subsequently banned. Do we finally have the truth? Last edited by JoHunt; 03-01-2012 at 03:40 AM. |

Returns, returns, returns...
I abused Amazon's return policy. I had one return and felt so guilty about it, that I closed my Prime membership to punish myself. Bad monkey... |

don't they all expect double digit returns?
But on a serious note, I do not think such a thing could happen in Europe, at least not in Germany, where we can by law return any product (if it is not tailor-made) withing 2 weeks without any explanation. Go figure. |

Futility is only one aspect of a thread. Fun is another. I think the moderators should leave the thread open. Those that don't want to read it, or post additional comments to it, need not do so.

What would we do without posts like his? It would be anarchy, I tell you! We'd all be wasting precious minutes of our lives discussing stuff and joking with each other, when ThomasC knows very well what threads should be closed, and could have saved us from ourselves! Thank you ThomasC, on behalf of all the membership of MR, thank you! And I'm sure I speak for the moderators, who I'm sure appreciate you telling them how to to their job. Thank you! ApK |

In the UK, too, "Distance Selling" regulations allow you to return products bought online, but there's no requirement for a company to keep doing business with you if you abuse their returns policy.

The problem is that even if you legitimately return a lot of items due to problems with them, what's to stop Amazon from closing your account? There's nothing saying what too high a return rate is. Yes, it's possible to get defective/damaged merchandise. What if you bought a TV and the TV had a scratch on it that you didn't want. Would you return it or keep it due fear of getting your account closed? It's a shame when a shop makes you scared to use your customer rights and they don't tell you what a high rate of returns is. Does Amazon look at the returns for WHY they were returned? Sure, you can have the too many "I just didn't want it" type returns. But what about the defective/damaged returns. Because it's mail order and you want your item fast, it's not unreasonable to return a damaged/defective item and buy it at a local store.
This is one of the reasons I don't think being tied into Amazon is a good idea. You get your account closed and you lose access to your content and the ability to buy new content. |

I might be ignorant but I do not know of a single case in which someone's account has been closed because of high amount of returns. And there are many companies advertising they have 30 day no-question-asked return policy. The most important thing is companies compete on a different level because of this regulation. |
