It's pretty pointless.

I'd love to swap Android to a current Chrome OS on larger tablets with 4G or more RAM. Then I could run Android Apps and ARM Linux programs.
Has anyone done that? |

I run lots of ARM Linux (command line) utilities on Android. The graphic bit is the difficulty.

My first forays into UNIX and Unix like systems didn't have a GUI. Cromix 1985, Xenix 1987, Minix 1991. Red Hat in late 1990s was my first Linux. |

BSD on a dumb terminal (ADM3 or VT100). Sun 3 was the first I used with GUI. Oh! We also had UTS on out IBM 3081K (3270 terminals)

If you consider the Hisense A9 an ereader, then you have both AOSP and LineageOS as custom ROMs for it.
There seems to be an alternative OS developed for old Kobos. Not too functional, though. |

I wasn't too enticed by the project personally, but I love seeing community developed stuff like that. It sucks that Kobo is closing down newer devices. If only Pocketbook would release better devices - like an Era with an improved screen and better CPU/RAM - I would happily switch. And I hope they soon release working dictionaries with morphology support. |
