Apps update after softroot 1.3

I have softrooted my Nook. I noticed some of the apps that Softroot installed are outdated. How do I download and install the latest apps on my Nook. I have not done the step #3:Getting a root shell with the Android Debug root. Is it required?

You pretty much have to get the Android Debug connection running (as you would for the shell) in order to update.....

What about with the light softRoot? That doesn't include the ADB.

I'm not particularly a softroot expert, but I seem to recall reading that the "light" softroot was mostly a proof of concept that soft-rooting could be useful even for folks with no ADB access. IMO that would require someone committed to maintaining the softroot archive with current apps. I don't see why one would *want* a softroot that couldn't be accessed vs one which could....

Theoretically you could install apps via trook I believe, but it all seemed like a ton of pain just to avoid the nearly painless install/usage of ADB on one of my computers....

YMMV, etc,
