Nook Gets its First Hands-On
Was browsing Engadget and found this.
Let's hope that the lagginess is a fluke and not a design flaw. Luqman |

I think that issues with synchronisation between the LCD and e-Ink screens are going to be inevitable. The simple fact being that the LCD refresh rate is negligable, while e-Ink is, well, e-Ink.
If I choose something on the LCD screen which requires a refresh on the main screen will obviously happen on different timescales alltogether. I would be interested to see whether they implement some sort of artifical delay in the LCD screen feedback to bring it "down to speed" with the business part of the device. |

At least they weren't holding it upside down.

God, what a rabid bunch of screaming material girls.
BOb (Yes, I would scream too if I was getting a Nook for free. Even if it was an upside down nook.) |

I am aghast. Yes, it is incredibly exciting to get all that stuff free, but... What a parade of 21st century sigh.
Back on topic - The nook looks to be a promising 6 inch reader. And it is great to have additional pressure in the market. I would get one. I would even attend a taping of Ellen to get one. Except I am not in the market for another 6 inch reader. <sigh> where does the line exist between commercials and entertainment? Is there one? Ars gratia venalicium |

Lagginess should have been anticipated. It was in all the few early demos, and B&N conveniently did a lot of scene cutting in their marketing videos to hide something. I even remember commenting here how much faster the Alex Reader was than the Nook. Of course, people will eventually say "well it's still faster than going to the store and pulling the book off the shelf and waiting in line to purchase it" in order to defend it.

Seems to be running OK now. Quite honestly, I wouldn't bother. Just a bimbo, dancing with a great big boot, screamed on by hysterical nincompoops and holding a nook upside-down (as you'd expect -- she probably tries to read any book that way ... if she's literate, which I doubt). Neil
