Instructions for patching firmware 4.33.19611

This patch thread is for firmware 4.33.19611 (910ec6c4765063db39dbdb276b7ca3eee833de9d):

Instructions for patching on Windows, Linux, or macOS with kobopatch:
  1. Download the Kobo firmware release
You can find the download links here here.
  2. Download and extract the patch zip
Download and unzip kobopatch_4.33.19611.zip from here.
  3. Copy the firmware file to the src folder
Copy the original firmware you just downloaded into the kobopatch src folder.
  4. Install the firmware if needed
Install the firmware on your kobo BEFORE proceeding with the next steps. You can do this by extracting the contents of the firmware zip into the .kobo folder and ejecting.
  5. Choose your patches from the files in the src folder
Enable patches in the files in the src folder (or use the overrides in kobopatch.yaml to keep your options separate).
  6. Run kobopatch
Double-click kobopatch.bat on Windows, or run ./kobopatch.sh on Linux or macOS. On macOS, you can drag it into the terminal and press enter (you may need to go to System Preferences - Security and Privacy - General to confirm that you actually want to run it).
  7. Install the patches by copying KoboRoot.tgz into the .kobo folder of your device
If the patching succeeded, a file named KoboRoot.tgz will be created in the out folder. Copy it to the .kobo folder of your device. Safely remove your device once you are finished. On Linux, you may have to press Ctrl+H to show the .kobo folder.

What is the error? Did you remember to update the version number in your kobopatch.yaml file?

What you can do is put that patch in a different file (say src/nickel_custom.yaml) and that way it won't get overwritten when you copy over a new set of patches.

So the top of your kobopatch.yaml file would look like this:

Code:
patches:
  src/nickel.yaml: usr/local/Kobo/nickel
  src/nickel_custom.yaml: usr/local/Kobo/nickel
and in the middle of the file, you would put your options:

Code:
  src/nickel_custom.yaml:
    Reduce top/bottom page spacer: yes

Is there a way to add the hosts file replacement to the files section of kobopatch.yaml?

The path needs to be /etc instead of /Kobo. What would the path statement be?

"/Users/XX/Desktop/Kobo Patch/Remove GA/etc/hosts: usr/local/etc/hosts"? or just
"/Users/XX/Desktop/Kobo Patch/Remove GA/etc/hosts: /etc/hosts"?

This is what mine looks like:

Code:
files:
  src/root/etc/hosts: etc/hosts
Remove that leading slash from the second path.

I'm on Kobo Libra 2, and for some reason the patches aren't applied on this firmware. The last 4 or 5 releases that I patched all worked and I always apply the same three patches
Code:
overrides:
  src/nickel.yaml:
    Show all games: yes
  src/libadobe.so.yaml:
  src/libnickel.so.1.0.0.yaml:
Un-Force user text-align in div,p tags in KePubs: yes
Un-Force user font-family in KePubs: yes
  src/librmsdk.so.1.0.0.yaml:
As far as I can tell the script does its job and the patching log seems to be normal. The device shows the update screen and reboots, but none of the patches work.

I thought it was a fluke at first, but after patching and flashing three times I'm pretty sure there's a problem

I attached the log, but IMO the problem happens when updating
