Lightbulb Free (nook/Kindle/Kobo/iTunes/DRM-free) Scotland's Future [UK Politics Current Event]

Well, there's only a few more days before the Scottish people vote on their proposed independence, so here's a nicely topical freebie for anyone who'd like to catch up on the issue via their e-reader.

Scotland's Future: Your Guide to an Independent Scotland is Exactly What It Says In The Title, free courtesy of the Scottish Government.

This is a fairly lengthy tome, which goes over many aspects of the Scottish government's official views of how education, justice, health care, finances, etc. will be handled in an independent Scotland, as well as providing Q&A on literally hundreds of specific points of concern. They even cover stuff like answering whether or not Scotland will be able to continue hosting a particular golf tournament (the answer is yes).

Mind you, it doesn't seem to have been updated since it originally came out in November 2013, but I suppose the main goals won't have changed much.

Anyway, if you would like to discuss this issue with your fellow MR members, we've a dedicated Politics & Religion forum which you can join by following the instructions found in this thread here.

Currently free @ B&N (also in the UK), Amazon (available to Canadians and in the UK), Kobo & iTunes (both available to Canadians), and also DRM-free in multiple formats directly from the Scottish Government's special website for the referendum, where additional (and probably updated) related materials may be found.

I have to say that I admire the Scottish Goverment's efforts to get this into as many ebook stores as possible. I mean, even B&N main, which last I checked, didn't allow any IPs outside of the US and Canada to purchase anything without using a VPN and even in Canada, not letting one pick up less than a Sturgeon's Law percentage of the books unless one lies about one's billing address as well.

Mind you, that was probably just an automatic addition after having put it in the B&N UK store to begin with, but at least Scottish expats in north North America are covered?

And this has been the selected 3rd (non-repeat) free ebook thread of the day.

Because keeping up with global developments is important, and it's nice to be able to do it in a handy, portable, non-eye-straining fashion, even if some of the information may be a bit out of date.

Enjoy!

Description
On 18 September 2014 you will be asked to vote in a referendum on the question: ‘Should Scotland be an independent country?’ The Scottish Government believes you should vote Yes.

This guide sets out the gains of independence for Scotland – whichever party is in government – and this Government’s vision and priorities for action if we are the first government of an independent Scotland. It also explains the process by which Scotland will become independent following a Yes vote and how our newly independent Scotland will work. Scotland has many natural advantages. The foundations of our economy are strong. We have abundant natural resources.

We have a talented population with many world-class businesses and institutions. We have a proud history, progressive traditions, fine intellectual and artistic accomplishments, a strong identity and many friends across the world.

Through devolution, the people of Scotland have experienced some of the benefits of independence. The advantages of taking decisions for ourselves have been clear. Crime is lower. Health outcomes have improved. In many ways – like our unemployment rate – our economy is stronger than the UK as a whole.

The Scottish Parliament has protected the NHS from privatisation and restored our tradition of free education. This guide lays out how we can complete Scotland’s journey to home rule and become a fully independent country. If Scotland votes Yes in the referendum the Scottish Government will negotiate so that Scotland becomes independent on 24 March 2016.
