How to control picture resize during conversion?

Using calibre 0.8.30, I converted a .chm file into epub. Conversion went fine. However, pictures were resized (1000x96 to 566x54), making them hardley viewable (blurred). Is there a setting to control picture resizing?

IIRC you selected Device Profile affects resizing. Pick a device that has a NATIVE screen size of 1024 in the orientation of the picture large number.

Personally I choose the "Tablet" output device, which does not resize pictures at all. I think it's the only one that doesn't.

It worked. Sadly, the EPUB file size increased also. But: you can not have it all

Just a thought: Would it be an idea when selecting a device profile during conversion to mention a short description what it's side effects are? In my case, the current info just stated: "This profile is intended for the Sony PRS line..." I would never have expected that picture resizing was regulated and in which way, let alone what other options more are involved. In this way you are able to experiment and select one which might best suite you.

in this case: big picture --> even bigger picture after conversion although dpi went from 96 to 72 (using the default output profile)

Indeed, tablet profile does not change picture AFAIK
