AZW3 APNX EA PHL
Soo, these are the four files associated with my newly purchased books from Amazon. AZW3 I assume is the main book file, the text, index, ToC etc. Is the APNX file associated notes and highlights? What is EA and PHL? Not all books have four assoicated files, many have only three, no PHL.

The APNX file contains page numbers; the PHL file contains bookmarks, notes, etc (it's the equivalent of the "MBP" file for a Mobi book). Don't know what the EA file is, I'm afraid.

What I've heard is that,


TAN = Last page read, notes, bookmark, and highlights for a topaz ebook
MBP = Last page read, notes, bookmark, and highlights for a Mobi ebook
HAN = Last page read, notes, bookmark, and highlights for a KF8 ebook

PHL = Popular Highlights

APNX = Page numbers file

EA = End Ad, the "Before You Go" message

No, just a database in xml, indicating start and end position of the pertinent passage along with the number of people highlighting that passage.
