Installing Calibre on AWS - sudo -v requires password, default account doesn't have

I'm trying to run the install command on a Ubuntu 14 AWS account, the initial sudo -v bit demands a password, but the default su account on AWS servers does not have a password (it uses a private pem key file).

Oddly I can't find how to do sudo -v when the su account doesn't have a passord - anyone any tips pls?

Happy to install dependencies, build, etc but can't get them working either and anyway prefer the default install (can't find packages, non-sudo install fails).

Thanks

PS. Error with non-sudo install is:

tar: calibre-tarball.txz: Cannot open: No such file or directory
tar: Error is not recoverable: exiting now

There is a non sudo install not the source install

Read the notes on the download page.

Or simply skip the sudo -v and do the part afterward. Skip the other sudo too.

The non-root install doesn't run calibre_postinstall to symlink the executables into the path.

If you want to keep calibre updated, see my sticky in the Related Tools subforum or use the script here: https://github.com/eli-schwartz/cali...bre-upgrade.sh

Really sorry all, I had read the page several times then copied the command from the wrong text box. The non-sudo install worked fine, seems to have installed prerequisites, runs scheduled using:

sudo /home/ubuntu/calibre-bin/calibre/ebook-convert "/home/ubuntu/MyRecipev8.28v7.recipe" /home/ubuntu/ftp/MyBook.epub

Sorry for wasting your time kovidgoyal and thanks for the handy post on upgrades eschwartz and a little more understanding on the installer script.
