Ok, your doctor knows what he does. You're doing the things in the right way. But for people that want to self-medicate, they shouldn't take more than 100000 IU per THREE MONTHS (or 30000IU per month/1000IU per day).

When there is a disease, generally 4000 IU per day is enough; more than that, is dangerous (see the links above). And to maintenance, with 800-1000 IU per day is enough. But you don't have to worry since you are under medical control.

Your first link says 800 to 1600 IU to prevent deficiency, and your second link doesn't say anything about dosage.

Quote:
Adults and the elderly

Long term maintenance therapy following treatment of deficiency

AND

Prevention of vitamin D deficiency

Yes, but if you don't know what is your current level of Vit D3 in your blood, then by prudence, you shouldn't take more than 1000 IU per day. If your level of Vit D3 are normal (and you don't know that), by ingesting it, you can raise that level to toxic limits.

Not so much "control" as consultation; we're both medical practitioners, but doctors don't "control" their patients either way. What makes you think my doctor is male?

Here's a very recent paper from the UK government that gives a daily upper limit for all adults of 4000IU/100mg, but notes that adverse effects aren't expected below 10,000IU/250mg per day.
