A Doan and Carstairs novel, Doan being a short plump private detective, and Carstairs being an enormous, supercilious and snobbish Great Dane which Doan won in a crap game.

The pair are in a mountain village in Mexico, on a case, and have to deal with an earthquake, murder, and a hidden fugitive.
