Cost for new screen for 505?

I'm really annoyed. Somehow my screen got broken. It was not dropped, bent or crushed. I took it out of my bag one day and it was cracked. Damn it.

Sony says they will not cover it under warrantee.

Does anyone know what it will cost to have the screen replaced? I'm in Canada, if that makes a difference.

I'm sad.

Did you ask Sony?

Good excuse to use the Kindle $50 off coupon.

The "ballpark" figure is around US$180 to replace the screen module. They can't just replace the screen itself - they have to replace the whole thing with all the controller electronics, etc, too.

We did ask Sony and they said they couldn't give us an answer until they looked at the unit. I just posted it to them.

The Kindle uses the same screen. So whatever it was that broke the screen on the 505 could also maybe break the screen on the Kindle.

Carrying the Reader around in any non-rigid bag can lead to stresses or impacts on the Reader and other bag contents. Even if you don't notice them. When I have my Reader in my backpack, it is tucked (relatively) safely between a portfolio and another book or set of papers.
