All US government documents are owned by US citizens. If the author works for the US government then they are not copyrighted.

Thanks Dale, I doubt he still works for the government but definitely did at the time of writing and the book I was thinking of was commissioned by the CMH. So I should be ok .

For some reason, the PG book of A Rough Shaking has an error that doesn't allow the entire book to be loaded. It loads a page that says "Invalid page". What do I do?

Perhaps your download is corrupted. I just downloaded it and found no problems. Neither does ePub Validator.
So you'd best try redownloading, I guess.

I'd love to find a copy of "Pursuit of the Well-Beloved" by Thomas Hardy. It is an earlier, serialized version of "The Well-Beloved" that has a significantly different ending. Should definitely be in the public domain

I've come up empty searching all the places I know, including the download library here. But I suspect there must be a version out there because there are some "cheapie" versions on Amazon that I usually associate with copies of Gutenberg versions.

Thanks for any help.

I'm requesting that all the copies of War of the Worlds be put back online because is is public domain.

And I quote from Feedbooks... This work is available for countries where copyright is Life+70 and in the USA.

So why was it taken down when it is clearly Public Domain?
