British PRS 505 - American - any difference

I bought a Sony PRS 505 just before Christmas, and have found Sony help very frustrating.

I go on to the Adobe Editions Site, and it takes me to the Adobe USA site. Does this make a difference? Is Adobe Editions different in England?

According to Sony (I sent e-mails to both USA and England) my English PRS 505 is different to the USA version, so I should not download the firmware advertised on the SONY USA site, or buy ebooks available in America.

Is this true?

I would have thought a PRS 505 is a PRS 505, no matter the country bought in.

I believe the firmware version on the English 505 is different from the US version. I don't know what is different about the two firmwares.

I suspect they are telling you not to buy US available ebooks as the copyright laws for each country may differ but there are people outside of US who have purchased US ebooks and not had any problems. That being said, I do not think you have access to Sony's US ebook store. You would have to purchase from fictionwise or booksonboard.

Adobe Digital Editions should be universal.

A UK 505 will have a 1.2.xxx firmware, which mainly differs from the US 1.1.xxxx firmware in that the displayed date format is in dd/mm/yyyy format, rather than the US mm/dd/yyyy format.

There's no need to try & update your firmware. As for buying books, the Sony store won't let you buy from there without a US credit-card, even if you install the US version of the desktop software, but there's no geographical restriction on the Reader itself.
