Kindle 3 Wi Fi keeps restarting by itself

Does anyone have any idea what to do when a Kindle 3 starts to restart itself by itself? I'm at a loss to explain what is going on. I'll be reading and the unit will just spontaneously reboot without my choosing to do so, which of course sets back what I am reading to an earlier point.

Never mind. I got lucky and found the problem I think. After posting I happened to read about others having similar problems and tried deleting a book that I had recently uploaded to my Kindle. Whatever the problem was, deleting the book seems to have cleared it because it hasn't started rebooting by itself again. I had tried restarting it thinking that maybe something didn't reboot properly recently and that didn't clear it, but apparently the Kindle just didn't like one of the books I'd loaded onto it.

It could also be a known issue which occurred with some of the leather covers, where the locating pin was coming into contact with the device's circuit board. This happened to me, causing constant reboots. Simply filing down the locating pin and giving it a quick lick of black paint solved the problem instantly!

True, but the cover I use with mine doesn't have metal in it, and I didn't have the unit in a cover at all at the time I had the problem. I do wonder if it's possible that temperature changes can do it sometimes too. I've been staying in a lot recently to keep cool and when I do go out I take the kindle (in its case) with me. Certainly it's been hot and humid enough of late.

Well I thought it was working ok but it messed up again so I did a reset. Hopefully that will clear whatever it was that caused it.

The reset didn't work so I even tried contacting Amazon. They suggested a hard reset via the power button. Again it didn't work so I asked them to call me back and we rehashed what the problem was. Basically the software is messed up somewhere/somehow (or at least that seems to be the problem) and now it only shows 1 page and no archive listed plus I can't go to settings and restart to clear things that way either. So now they're sending me a replacement for the replacement. At least with air conditioning I'll keep cool while I wait for it to arrive in the mail. Going out and about in the heat of the day to return the old one via UPS isn't going to be fun though.
