Question 650 keeps restarting

My sony prs 650 keeps restarting / rebooting in a loop

After not using my sony prs 650 for 5 to 6 months, I wanted to use it again last week.
I begun by connecting the reader to my PC with the USB cord to charge it, because the battery was totally empty.

At the same time I bought 2 new ebooks online and added them to the reader using Calibri when the reader was still recharging.

After a couple of hours charging I disconnected the reader by pulling out the USB cord. Because it had been a while I forgot to disconnect the device in Calibri first.
Then I wanted to start reading my new ebooks, but the reader just keeps on rebooting from this point onwards.
It shows the load screen, then the normal first screen, with the loading icon but then it just reboots and starts over again.

Beside this I think there is a problem with the battery, because at first I thaught it only was a battery problem. To solve this I left the reader connected to my PC overnight (and no my PC doesn't go into sleep modus or something like that).
The next morning I tried using the reader but it still just kept rebooting.
I just left it that way and went to work, when I got home, it had stopped rebooting and the screen was empty.

After another night connected to my PC (other USB port) and another night connected to another PC, I still have the following issue:
even after having been charged overnight, when I unplug and plug in the USB cord the red light next to the power switch is always red, which means it is charging. After serveral hours the red light will disappear, but 1 minute later it is red again after disconnecting and connecting the USB....

I tried the soft and hard reset but they don't work. The screen will freeze after reset, but doesn't continue. After restarting the reader, the loop begins again.

I did some searching but I haven't found a similar case or a good solution to my problem(s)

Can anybody help me?

Try charging with a USB adapter. Do you get the "charging" screen when charging? If you don't it's not charging! (At least that's the way it is on my 350).

The only time ever my 650 crashed and rebooted the problem was caused by a defective book. Delete the books you have loaded on the 650 via usb and check if the problem persists.

If the red light comes back on after only having been disconnected for about a minute I would say the battery has gone faulty.

Lithium Ion batteries do not like being stored for any length of time in a discharged state, although the battery protection circuit should have kicked in to stop it going completely flat.

Try a few charge/discharge cycles to see if that revives the battery.

Ditto. When my reader was stuck in a continuous restart loop, it was also due to a faulty book. The book could be previewed fine in calibre, but my Sony sure didn't like it. I quickly plugged the reader to my computer via USB when it started a restart cycle and was able to force it into USB connected mode. I then deleted the troublesome file. All was fine after that.

problem solved

thanks for the suggustions, I removed the last files I added and the restarting cycle disappeared. Thus it seems it was a faulty file that caused the loop.
