Come to think of it, while in the U.S. for Christmas I 'renewed' my debit card, which resulted in a new number. However, while there I used it at Amazon for approx. $1500 to purchase some goodies.

X-link to the DRM-free megathread for some Humble Bundles with sfnal content:

Humble Audiobook Bundle: Smart Fun! The Best of National Public Radio contains a Star Wars radio drama you can get at the lowest tier (if you missed the previous dedicated Star Wars audiobook HB which also had it).

And the Humble Comics Bundle Image featuring Creators Own Worlds contains some notable sfnal comics/graphic novels, including volumes of the Hugo Award-nominated space opera epic Saga and also Hugo Award-nominated fantasy gaming spoof Rat Queens, as well as science fiction miniseries by notable writers like Warren Ellis (ISFDB, Wikipedia), a sci-fi satire by Kelly Sue DeConnick, a sci-fi retelling of Homer's The Odyssey by Matt Fraction, and assorted supernatural-themed tales as well.

Back in 1981 I made sure I was home from work on time on Tuesdays, I believe, to catch the weekly episodes of the Star Wars radio drama. They did a fantastic job. Of course, I have the whole thing on CDs (which I've ripped to MP3s) so I'm set.

Wait, Wait and Car Talk are hysterically funny, and worth getting if you've never heard them.

The Color of Magic by Terry Pratchett is $0.99 today

US only, Amazon, Kobo, Apple at least

First in the Discworld series and a bit atypical (like Master and Commander).

Sorry, no link it knows I am a foreigner.

Yeah but both Terry Pratchett and Patrick O'Brian are dead so what you see is what there is and no danger of an unresolved cliff-hanger.

LOL... that is a point, and actually I did buy that book.

Seriously doubt I'd buy all 40 sequels, though. Certainly not within a year.

They are. They reference events in other books, but it's not required knowledge to have read them all. You will get more out of them if you've read them in chronological order, but I read them first in totally non-chronological order and enjoyed them immensely. I would go so far as to say this is the most approachable large series out there.

So just grab one and try it, if you like it, look at the reading order guides for how the various sub-series are linked to decide what you want to read next. For example, since this is the first book in the Rincewind subseries, you'd be fine just parsing through those and ignoring everything else till you finish them. That's largely what I did. I read the Watch novels first, then Death, then Witches, then Rincewind, and so on. I later re-read all forty (as of the time) novels in chronological order and it was a blast noticing all the references I had missed the first time.

Free today on Amazon UK -The Long Way Down by Craig Schaefer

'Nobody knows the seedy underbelly of Las Vegas like Daniel Faust, a sorcerer for hire and ex-gangster who uses black magic and bullets to solve his clients' problems. When an old man comes seeking vengeance for his murdered granddaughter, what looks like a simple job quickly spirals out of control.
Soon Daniel stands in the crossfire between a murderous porn director; a corrupt cop with a quick trigger finger; and his own former employer, a racket boss who isn't entirely human. Then there's Caitlin: brilliant, beautiful, and the lethal right hand of a demon prince.
A man named Faust should know what happens when you rub shoulders with demons. Still Daniel can't resist being drawn to Caitlin's flame as they race to unlock the secret of the Etruscan Box, a relic that people all over town are dying -- and killing -- to get their hands on. As the bodies drop and the double-crosses pile up, Daniel will need every shred of his wits, courage and sheer ruthlessness just to survive.
Daniel Faust knew he was standing with one foot over the brink of hell. He's about to find out just how far he can fall.'

Until they discover 'unpublished' works. Many of them.

Why, if Terry and Patrick play their cards right, they can become more prolific than L. Ron Hubbard.
