DPT-RP1 firmware update expected early next year

https://community.sony.com/t5/Reader.../636128/page/2

"Sorry for the ongoing delay...

Our design team is expanding the update: rather than releasing a new firmware with just a couple of additions/improvements, it'll have numerous/significant improvements. We'll have an announcement early next year."

Excellent news

It is great to see that Sony hasn’t abandoned it completely!

Last time I thought Sony had announced excellent news, it was when they announced there would be a successor to the DPT-S1.

See how that turned out.

Anyway, if the firmware update actually delivers, they only have to revise that awful pen of theirs and I may change my mind about that product. Better late than never.

Apart from the pricing of the nibs, what’s wrong with the pen?

It's rather the combination of the pricing together with the enormous scientific break-through of devising material (do they still call it "felt"?) which wears off like rubber and is as brittle as glas at the same time. Which would be horrid enough by its own; the fact that the broken tips cannot be removed from the pen is just the icing on the cake.

Sounds like graphite, but without leaving the black marks. Maybe they wanted the experience of using a pencil at the price of fountain pen nibs.
