Kindle iOS 4.4
The latest Kindle iOS app update has some interesting new features (I think they've been getting ideas from Marvin ):

Awesome! Thanks for sharing the news. Now the recent page sync feature has been incorporated to match the Paperwhite update. The placeholder feature is interesting. I just used it to flip back and forth between the chapter I'm reading and the footnotes in the back. The Wiki cards are nice for quick info.

I don't get the syncing to most recent page read rather than furthest page tbh, it's much more awkward to me as invariably I want furthest page read.

Most recent page is simply where you stopped reading. I believe most reading apps sync this way. Often most recent and furthest are the same thing if you read straight through from beginning to end. However some books have extra material at the end like appendices or biographies might have photo sections. Maybe it's a reference book, and you don't want to read the chapters in order. Furthest page would prompt you to sync way ahead of what page you were reading, and you had to use bookmarks to keep your place to pick up another device and know where you stopped.

So still no KF8 (AZW3) support? Meh...

This is another botch job by Amazon. Without KF8 support, the Kindle app is a poor excuse for an app. Amazon can make all the changes they like, but until they support KF8, this app is worthless.

For a small percentage of readers sure. For the majority I suspect they have no idea what the various Kindle formats are, they just worry about if it can be read on their device or not.

The iOS app supports a format called "AZK", but AZK is a distinct format to KF8, although related to it. Or are you saying that the iOS app will download KF8 files from Amazon? I haven't personally observed this happening.

I have been told by people in digital publishing that a KF8 ebook sold in the Kindle Store wil work correctly in the Kindle app for iOS.

I just tried an Amazon eBook I did purchase that has embedded fonts and the fonts do display. So yes, KF8 does work.
