My Kindle Broke And That Made Me Sad...

out of the blue, my kindle kacked on me. the worst part is that it died on the road in la which meant i had to read a PAPER BOOK on the plane on the way home. HORRID!

not sure what happened - but went to turn it on and the screen switched to a bunch of lines and that was it. called kindle support and they ran me through a couple of quick error checks then sent a replacement without question.

the new kindle was waiting for me this morning. well, refurb - BOO to refurb! it actually showed up with finger prints and smudges all over it. hate that but after cleaning it up it's as good as new.

excellent support experience overall...

Welcome to MobileRead, grownupboy.

I'm surprised at the condition of your refurb. Mine was like new. Someone slipped up......

However, I am glad you got good service.

Amazon excels at that.

How was that reading paper experience?

I was so terrified of that possibility that I bought a K1 refurb as soon as they were available. at least you didn't have to wait too long!

I also had my Kindle break, while I was away from home. The screen display had a fractured appearance that could not be fixed.
Amazon was gentle with me and sent a replacement Kindle 1 for $99.00 and the return of my Kindle 1. Oddly enough, the replacement Kindle does not have a bar for the wrist lanyard.... hmmmm.
I purchased two paperback books only to boycott them for a few days...
I missed my Kindle too much, it seems.

Boo paper!

The worst thing about going back to a paper book is turning pages and having to lick your finger to turn those pages that are stuck together!
If fingerprints are the only problem with your refurb, you should be happy!

thanks for the replies everyone!

desertgrandma - i was surprised too - but when i opened the box i was dismayed. there was a large piece of crud under the plast that covers the front of the kindle and there were finger prints all over the screen. nothingt that couldn't be cleaned up of course.

more interesting is that the shipped out the refurb to me with version 2.2 of the kindle software. i upgraded it right away but jeez, the least they could have done is update the firmware!

p.s. i was reading the "the corrections" by jonathan franzen in la and had about 100 pages left. that's the book that i had to re-buy to finish on the plane ride home. as soon as i got my new kindle i picked up "the girl with the dragon tattoo" because all the cool kids are reading it! LOL!

My k1 broke while traveling. I bought a pbook - it was the first ebook I had bought on my k1, and I had only read about 1/3. I read another 1/3 on the plane, and bought a K2, which arrived a day later. I was happy to finally finish the book on my k2. Boo to pbooks.

tsk! I would have taken a picture, and sent that witha nice, politely worded note to kindle support.

There is no excuse for that, and someone fell down on the job.

Sorry about that!
