I had in mind you can plug this into a bluetooth speaker and thus control the volume via the bluetooth speaker, but thankfully those who have tried the adapter report it does indeed have volume control through the Paperwhite software.

So today's Kindle Chronicles podcast (http://www.thekindlechronicles.com/2...accessibility/) Len Edgerley interviews Amazon's Accessibility Architect and they discussed Kindle VoiceView and accessibility generally at length.

One of the things that came out is that Ivona requires 512MB RAM (or at least 256MB is insufficient). As far as I can make out the Kindle (7th generation) has only 256MB. So it will not get VoiceView, and neither will Paperwhite 2, which also only has 256MB. Presumably the forthcoming replacement for K7 ('Woody') will have the necessary resources, and will run VoiceView.

Huh? The limitation is the RAM, not the 2gb storage. What you quoted is in kilo byte - barely adding to 150 mega byte.

But Ivona requires more than 256MB RAM, which PW1 & PW2 do not have. The issue is not storage space.

Did you install the required update? It doesn't happen automatically. (See "Download the Audio File for Your Device" near the bottom of this page.)

It's not currently available in the UK. I see that your profile says that you have a PW2. VoiceView only works on the PW3 (plus the Voyage and Oasis), not the PW2.

If you have a PW3 with latest update (or apparently Oasis, and Voyage with downloadable voice data), you can use off the shelf parts to activate VoiceView (which is what I've done). There's nothing proprietary about the Amazon audio adapter.
