I agree about buying a new Reader. The 600 is like reading with a mirror. It's awful. The touch layer makes the screen very reflective and not as sharp as it should be. An new Reader with a Carta screen and a front light will look so much nicer.

Of course you agree, you were the one we were talking about. So essentially you are agreeing with yourself. For what it's worth, if the funds are there, I agree with you. Then again if a person is satisfied there is absolutely no reason to change.

What I don't get is how someone can be satisfied with mirror reading. Seeing your face when you read is a bother (to me). It just makes no sense.

i dont know man, i don't find the reflection unbearable as long as im not reading under direct sunlight and said sunlight is hitting the screen at a 45º angle.
One thing i dislike about newer readers is that they feel cheap in your hand
the prs 600 feels very sturdy and is nice to hold, i've had kindles in my hands and don't really enjoy holding them as much as i do with my prs

I have a PRS-650 and it beats the heck out of the 600. The 600 was a mistake. Te 700 was also a mistake.

Go on ebay and buy 2 or 3. That's what I do.

I have 4 505s and 2 900s.

Sorry but no. The 505 is not the best. The problem with the 505 is that is slow, not enough system RAM, and using a version of RMDSK that doesn't fully justify and no hyphenation. I'm not sure how a 505 would respond (or crash) with eBooks that have hi-resolution images. And the default font is not all that good and bold/italic is simulated. No, the 505 is not the best. The T1 is better than the 505, but even that pales in comparison to current devices.

And as for the 900, good idea if you need another mirror.

Of course, my statement like your is subjective in nature but I'll explain my reasoning behind it.

I like the 505 because of the layout of the device, all the buttons are right where I need them regardless of which hand I use, it's a nice aluminum case and it fits perfectly in my cargo pants side pocket.

Dual memory slots are also a win for me. That's the one thing I wish the current crop of new ebook readers would have.

As for slow, it's a book reader. All I need it to do is display text.

As for not enough system ram, not sure what you mean by that. I'm not running a web browser.

All in all, it's my favorite device and I do have others to compare it to. Most of the new ones are just android devices with e-ink screens which isn't bad but I like the single purpose nature of specialized ebook readers.

Not sure what RMDSK is but it reads like it has something to do with PDFS? If so, yea pdf support isn't the greatest but there's plenty of epubs that fit just fine.

The only thing that mars my experience is the 4 gig limit that was imposed by Sony cause they used a buggy version of mtools in the firmware. I'm still hoping to find a way to get past that in the future however.

It's fine. I regularly select the highest rez covers I can find.

Yes, the default font isn't that great. I should amend my statement to say the 505 is the best once you've put PRS+ on it.

I'm not that familar with the T1, is that the one that only reads PDFs?

You know, I know what you mean about the mirror, the screen overlay isn't that great but I like the 900 because unlike the 505, it read so far, every book I put on the **DUAL** memory slots, so I keep it at home as a reference ebook reader. I like the styling of it but yes, the screen isn't the best but after having used it while I was waiting on my additional 505s, I don't really mind it. To me, I'll suffer a lot if I can have a device with a large library and it's not so bad as to ruin my reading experience.

How hard is it to learn to code the language needed to develop prs+?

There are so many bugs in the last version of prs+ 2.1.02 alpha.

So learn to code and fix the bugs and you'll be all set.

Learning to code is not too hard, it more seems to be a mindset thing, people either get it or they don't

However, after saying that, trying to fix someone else's code is probably one of the hardest things to do and not a good project to try first.

The problem is that the return you' get from fixing up PRS+ is almost non-existent. Most people who used PRS+ have moved on as their Sony batteries died. Plus, with Readers such as Kobo, there's no need for PRS+. So not only do you no longer need PRS+, but you get a Reader that's faster, more reliable, handles hi-res images much much better, has a significantly better higher res screen with more contrast, font light, newer version RMDSK, and maybe a larger screen.
