Hello,
I have seen that the onyx boox max2 pro can be purchased at ereader-store.de. What are the main differences with the onyx boox max (first version not carta) ? The nice improvement I notice is dual touch (finger + stylus). The caveat is no more extension slot for external sd cards. That's to note also a more powerful cpu, but to what extent ? I would like to run the "Write" android app : an app smilar to onyx scribbler with which you can write with the stylus. With my current onyx boox max, when writing with this app, there is a certain lag : what you writes appears 1-2s after. I think this is mainly due to a cpu limitation, but it could be also due to the stylus technology. I run the same app on a samsung galaxy note pro 12.2", equiped with an octa-core (1.3 / 1.9 GHz), there is no lag at all, the sylus tech is from wacom. So I expect that with the max2 pro, its wacom tech and more powerful cpu, the write app would be more usable. Also, is the stylus pressure sensitive, I have not seen any comments on that so far ? |

Relating to the Max 2 HDMI function.
In the Onyx video I have seen a dedicated monitor holder for the Max 2. Is there something similar on sale on eBay or Amazon without damaging the device? |

Also it is worth to mention the remarkable and important improvement is now the Wacom digitizer. It is very exact and also faster than current Hanvon digitizer used in previous Onyx devices with inductive touch screen. I am testing Max2 now for some days and I am very impressed by the excellent stylus writing capability of it. It is very close to the writing with a regular pen.

Going by memory 2gb ram instead of just 1gb and 32gb storage vs 16gb (I think) on the onyx max carta.

Most wacom devices do, so I would be surprised the max2 does not, but I do not see it in the specs |

Very good question, and we tried to figure out a bit in the parallel thread "Muticore processor".
With all probability your Max first-gen equips the i.MX 6SL (geekbench3 value single core = 275); after some market indications that made me believe differently, screenshots now show that the third-gen Onyx Boox Max Carta 2 Pro equips the RockChip 3288 (geekbench3 value single core = 750, when clocked at 1.6Ghz). The RK3288 is what I originally hoped for. You may expect the OBMC2P to be capable of being almost three times as fast on single threading, and you have four cores instead of just one so tasks will not get clogged in a single queue. Counting the multicore, you may have gains that bring you from 3 to 8 times the performance of the Max in the former two generations. EDIT: another interesting thing is that the technology used in the RK3288 is, if I remember correctly, 60% more battery efficient than that used in the former processor. So, you get the extra speed when you need it, and the battery-conscious users get that power at a strong discount. Quote:

Check the latest videos, it CAN BE pressure sensitive and the feat is used by software tested (preinstalled?) on the device.
EDIT: from 'is' to 'can be'. When you do not fully double check for doubts... Last edited by mdp; 12-05-2017 at 03:01 AM. |

Someone posted another video review of Max 2, which contradicts the previous video.
New video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=f1LeURVZw3g * The stylus is not pressure sensitive. * The stylus is is not the generic "Bamboo" stylus shown in the previously posted video. It sounds a bit like he bought it from some guy of questionable legitimacy, so perhaps this is a prototype rather than the final product? He paid about $700 for it—much less than what it's going for on the Dutch website. The main issue he had with the device is battery drain when in standby mode. Previously posted Max 2 to Sony comparison video (for quick reference): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=w_hA_cwoW8A |

The SM-P900 when clocked at 1.9Ghz is just a tad slower than the SM-P905, so you could expect, given the information we have, the OBMC2P could lose a 15% of raw power compared to that.
Which should be impressive, since it is compared to someway recent (in absolute terms, not in tech trend terms) high-end Samsung devices. |
