Kobo Aura H2O USB connection issues - logs included
Everything was going very smoothly until today - but it's my turn to have USB connection problems. I hope someone can help.
Kobo Aura H2O Edition 2 , 4.5.9587 (Always treated very delicately, especially the microUSB port. Under warranty of course.) Macbook Pro (early 2013), on 10.12.6 When I try to connect, the Kobo screen says it's connected, but the computer doesn't show it up (either in Calibre or in Finder/Disk Utility). I've tried three different cables, two different computers (the other an iMac), and full power cycles of both devices. I don't know enough to decipher logs, but maybe someone here can? Both computers are spitting a whole lot of this into console: Spoiler:
Any thoughts? I'm not very keen to do a factory reset as I'll have to reload everything (and currently can't), but if that's the only option I'll go that way. Thanks. |

Probably not going to be much help, but...
The log makes it look like the device is being seen but not mounted properly. I can see to cycles of the same messages, and "spitting a whole lot of this", so it is probably continuously retrying to connect to the device. The questions that come to mind are: - Do the other devices connect? Especially the Kobo devices. - Do you have a non-Mac computer you can try? - Was there a recent update on the Macs? Unfortunately, I suspect you will to have to do a factory reset. |

No other devices were connected while doing this, and I've been holding off on the latest OS update on the Mac. Definitely no MacOS update has been done since the last successful Kobo connections. The current MacOS is 10.13, my version on the MBP is 10.12.6.
My kid has a PC gaming laptop with Windows that I could try when he gets home. Hmm, and now that I've reconnected my backup drives to the MBP, they're not mounting properly. They report a successful Time Machine backup last night, but won't do one now. The plot thickens. Off to do another restart... |

In what is possibly good news, after this MBP restart my backup drives are working, and my iPhone happily charging. I pulled out my old H2O (ed 1), and that's mounting just fine.
Plugging the Ed 2 H2O in again, I'm now getting a message that the disk is unreadable by this computer - on both Macs. ("Good news" in that the only hardware item in this whole setup that's currently under warranty is the H2O ed 2!) Off to do that factory reset, methinks. Dammit: after the factory reset, I set up the Kobo fine, but on plugging in I'm still getting "The disk you inserted was not readable by this computer".

Update: happily sorted with a replacement from the local B&M store where I bought it.
