Mayby the conversion issue is related to Calibre conversion "soft hyphen" fix made in 2021. Sorry, can't find specific Calibre version number... Topic of report: soft hyphens in docx conversion output

Although: Seems comit only takes care of trailing spaces. Actually the same problem (space lost) will occur with leading ones... (Just tested in Calibre.)

Just quick test with Calibre 7.7 (released 2024-03-14):

source epub (positions of soft hyphens signalized as "{sh}"):

Aaa{sh}aaa aaa{sh} aaa {sh} aaa {sh}aaa.

docx conversion output (Calibre 6.26, Calibre 7.7):


Calibre version 7.7 preserves spaces around soft hyphens. As expected.
