After the temperature dropped to -6℃ yesterday morning, this morning (6.30am) it's 1℃ and this afternoon it'll be 8℃. In the next half hour a little bit of rain is expected, after that it should be dry until late afternoon. Because of the cold ground and leftover snow/ice outside combined with the rain we've had during the night the roads and sidewalks might by icy, so I'll have to be careful when going to work this morning.

It was in the 40s with a high of 51 on Thursday. Turned very cold Thursday evening. 25 degrees F. when I was going home from swimming. There was a wait for buses, so I walked 6 blocks and got one from there. Windy out too.

We've had some nice weather the last couple of days; sunny, dry, not much wind. It looks like that's going to continue for a couple of days, but it will get a bit colder, especially at night. Over the weekend there's a chance of rain, and for next week they're starting to predict snow. I hope not; just a couple of centimeters and the country goes into chaos (like a couple of weeks ago) and I don't feel like having to walk home through the snow/ice after work anymore.

Winter storm & arctic air heading our way Friday night/Saturday - right now my county is in the snow belt. Laid in a supply of food that doesn't need cooking, bottled water & fresh packs of batteries - in case of freezing rain/icing and power outages. Going to be an interesting week end. Propane company topped off our tank today.
According to the memory feature on my phone photo app we had over a foot of snow in 2018 on Jan 20. |

The high temperature today was 22°F despite it being a very sunny day. The overnight low temperature is expected to be 2°F.
The days are getting noticeably longer -- today's sunset in my neighborhood was at 5:01pm. That's a step in the right direction, but the sun still isn't strong enough to help much with warming things up, and it isn't helping much with the snow. We got a total of about 6 to 8 inches of snow, and it's all still there -- and it's still powdery. And it will still be here when the next snowstorm is due, this weekend. |

Yesterday it was cold and it felt even colder because of the icy wind. It's raining off and on this morning, it's now 2℃ and this afternoon it'll go up to 7℃. Today it'll be cloudy, but tomorrow the sun should come out.
Over the weekend it'll get colder, with a warning of the possibility of icy roads. But at the least the prediction of snow has disappeared. |

Everyone is expecting we'll lose power during the impending US East Coast winter storm, since we'll be getting snow, followed by sleet and freezing rain, followed by several days of single-digit Fahrenheit temperatures.
Not looking forward to it. Incoming disasters like this that make me wish I hadn't gotten rid of my dedicated mp3 player when I got my first smartphone. I can manage long spells without power as long as I've got something to read and something to listen to. But if I've gotta conserve precious smartphone battery, that could impact my ability to listen to stuff. Hopefully my local classical music station continues to operate through the storm and I can maintain the hand-crank radio. |
