And how many people are using that same spelling to define a Kindle/Kobo/Sony?

Words mean what people intend for them to mean. Language is something fluid
So if I use a word like "computer" to mean a piece of paper, is that correct? No it's not. So really, words have meanings and your eaning a given word to mean what it does not does not make it mean that.

Why don't we use "Mobipocket" to mean electronic book reader? It's soon going to be just as obsolete a word as eReader.

A "computer" originally meant a person who carried out calculations. The word was then transferred to a machine which performed calculations. Words do change their meaning over time, Jon.

That may be so, but the word created to mean electronic book reader uses a hyphen. The other issue is that eReader may be a trademark and if that's so, then eReader cannot mean electron book reader no matter how many people may want it to do so.

Nah. I don't like tea.

But as I said before you cannot change the meaning of a trademarked word. So if eReader is trademarked, then just add the hyphen.

Ok let's get technical. eReader might be but I don't think so since it can define many devices. The word ereader is not trademarked. You could also use e-reader to describe any device designed for reading electronic books.
Now I do believe Kindle and Kobo could possibly be trademarked.

Only brand names are trademarked. Example Kleenex tissue. Kleenex is the trademark not the word tissue.

So what is your drink of choice?

That doesnt matter. Words mean what people want them to mean, it's a cultural thing and not a legal thing.

Trademarks are only relevant in the legal world, and even there it is specific to the question of: "Does the use of this name potentially lead to damages?" I can call my restaurant "eReader", regardless of Palm IP, anytime anywhere.

Sure, but that does lead to all kinds of problems, many of a serious global nature.

How do you know? I may have changed the definition of society to mean individual. Besides, there has to be the first person to change the definition. The reality is eReader is a format and e-reader is a device.
