Kindle Touch activation needed
First time posting here. I have numerous Kindles as you can see in my profile. But my recently purchased Touch is refusing to play Audibles. It's definitely registered to my Amazon account, the downloads go fine. Sometimes I will even be asked if I want to continue where I left off in my Audible book. But whatever happens, I end up with a popup saying, "Audible Activation Error. The audiobook you have selected cannot be played because this Kindle has not been authorized. Please tap Activate and register with the Audible account used to purchase this audiobook." When I tap activate, I get a popup "Audible Activation. Please enter you Audible login information. Username___, Password___" When I enter my Amazon account credentials, and hit OK, I get another popup, "Activating , then another popup "Network Error We are experiencing technical difficulties. Please try again later." I downloaded the same audiobook to my KKB3, it didn't even ask for activation and plays fine! Here's what I've tried: restarting my Touch, re-downloading the book, resetting my Touch, using a different wifi network. I've tried searching the forum, but can't find anything that matches my problem. My Touch is on the latest firmware: 5.3.7.3. When I bought it (on Craigslist), I had trouble registering it until I side-loaded the firmware and updated it. Then it registered fine. I have no problem downloading Kindle ebooks. It also syncs the farthest I've read in the ebooks. Any help anyone can give will be highly appreciated. I also talked to Amazon support, who sent me over to Audible support. Eventually Audible said my device was no longer supported, so they couldn't help me...I didn't know at the time that my KKB3 would have no trouble at all with an audio book, even though it's also "unsupported."

If you bought it used on Craigslist that may be the reason the person sold it. You may have to buy a new one. You may try resetting the device maybe

Thanks for your reply, but as you can see, I have no problem with Kindle ebooks. Also, my KKB3 which I also got on Craigs has no problem with either Kindle books nor with Audibles.

I'd unregister the kindle, do a factory reset and then re-register it. As a first trouble-shooting step.

Thanks, pdurrant. I was considering that step next, wanting to avoid it if possible. But that makes sense.

Well, I did the unregister, reregister and reset. It didn't fix it. I'm really puzzled. If I sync my content, it knows where I last listened. But it still says Network error, after I input my email and password. Maybe it's trying to connect to the wrong server, as I tried putting in a wrong password, and I get the same. Network error. Try again later. Not wrong password or something. It just seems really odd, since my KKB3 didn't even ask to activate the device. This is the first audible I've ever purchased. I was wondering if flashing earlier firmware might do anything to help the situation?

It's puzzling. For the heck of it I pulled out my old Kindle Touch, which I've never listened to an Audible book on, and was able to quickly download and listen to an Audible title just fine. No errors, no request to register (my Audible and Amazon accounts were merged way back I didn't keep a separate Audible account/login like a few have)...
FWIW mine is a WiFi only Kindle Touch with firmware 5.3.7.3 (27152800002) I did see a reddit post where someone was having the Network Error issue over WiFi with a Kindle 4 and it was solved for them by connecting the Kindle to a PC via USB and using Audible Manager to activate the device that way. Might be worth a shot anyway. Shrug Poking around on Audible's site yields... Which of course you already found out. Quote:
