Question Sheet music on Onyx Boox Max Carta

I am planning to order the Onyx Boox Max Carta next week. The main purpose I have for it is sheet music. I have a library of about 3000 sheet music .PDF files. Over 95% of them are 3MB or smaller. The potential problem that I can see is organization. Is there a way search for a specific file, or do you have to keep clicking on next page until you find the file you want to open? (if so, that is not going to work well with a library of this size).

In short, what is the best way to organize a few thousand files and be able to find them on the device? (is there a search option, do I need to add an "author" in the metadata of each file, ect...)

Hi,
Onyx software supports folders and sub-folders. So it could be the first option to organize your collection using it. File search is supported. Another option is to use the Onyx library. It supports also sub-libraries, tag scan and quick search by file name, title or other tags. However the most advanced option (if you have a big collection of documents/ e-books) would be to use special software like Calibre for instance: https://calibre-ebook.com/ or especially for musicians the MobileSheets http://www.zubersoft.com/mobilesheets/ app. Just watch the presentation video whether it would fit to your needs.

Best way is to purchase professional sheet music software from Play store:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/d...obilesheetspro

But you know you will have a massive problem to turn pages because current Max has NO touchscreen. Unless you want hold the stylus/pen while performing. And double tap with stylus.

There should be Max 2 coming soon (Booxtor is talking about that more then a year) with hand touch.

You could use physical buttons or a bluetooth pedal.
There is also an app that lets you use your smartphone as a bluetooth touchpad

Onyx Max will not find Airturn Bluetooth pedals.

You'd be better off to buy new Sony's DPT-RP1 available on the 20th June:
https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/produ...1_digital.html

It's cheaper, has dual touch and Bluetooth, it's faster.
If you're professional musician I'm sure you'll appreciate stable system.

I am using Strich Music BT-FP2 Bluetooth pedal for music sheets. It is inexpensive, very solid and it works perfectly with Onyx devices.

If I was buying a 13.3" Reader, I would buy the Onyx Boox Max Carta because the Sony is way too limited as all it does is PDF.

Just a quick piece of news:
Did you know GVIDO? http://www.gvido.tokyo/

It is a very interesting e-reader for musicians but it is too expensive!!!

Did you end up getting the Max Carta?

I'm interested, as I'm considering this a potential device for:
PDF reading (for work - business)
Writing/Blogging
Sheet music

Definitely would like to know what you ended up buying, and how you're finding it so far!

The thread is old but the topic still very actual.

DO NOT BUY THE SONY DPT-RP1 !!!

First: I am NOT working for eInk, Onyx, Sony or anybody else in the eInk / eReader industry. I am a specialist for system integration and play the classical guitar intensively, which is why these devices are so interesting for me.

I am in the same situation. Thousands of files with sheet music for the classical guitar and I want to get rid of the paper on my music stand.

I had ordered a Sony RP1 (the new model with higher resolution). Then I found the Onyx Max Carta and cancelled my order because of the following reasons:

The Sony DPT-RP1

- does NOT support Linux to send files onto the device
The Onyx does not have such a restriction. All ports on the Onyx are open for anything.

- has a pen with a battery and USB - you MUST load it, otherwise it will not work

The Onyx pen does NOT have a battery and still has very good functionality like a button to switch into instant note taking mode and turn it around and use it as a rubber to delete annotations.

- uses a display with SAME resolution as the Onyx Max Carta - it is actually the same patented device / technology from eInk, which has patents on all eInk displays

- does NOT support a browser or any other access to Internet as the older S1 Sony model did

- does NOT support WIFI to copy files to the device - only with a Windows or Apple program running on another computer you can use WIFI, otherwise WIFI on the Sony is USELESS, same for Bluetooth and NFC

- has NO way to search for or sort files directly on the device.
You MUST do this on another computer using a Windows or Apple app
Really, if you forget where a file is on the Sony, you can throw the device away.
On the Onyx, you have Android and you can use any File manager app.

- has NO way to rename folders directly on the device.

- does NOT support foot pedals but Onys supports many of them

- does NOT support to copy new docs onto the device using your smartphone

- does NOT support Android apps like the Onyx does (e.g. MobileSheetsPro)

- does NOT support SD cards to extend memory

- does NOT have a standard USB port (it has a USB port but you cannot connect USB devices - it is just for a cable to connecct with the Windows or Apple PC)

- does not support other UI languages than English and Japanese

Really, the Sony device is UNUSABLE. The only advantage is better security.

Sony should build chairs - they do not care about usefulness and functionality at all - only the design counts for them. And the Sony is NOT cheaper than the Onyx - it is the other way around. I have ordered the Onyx from eBay sent from France in 5 days for 560 EUR. The Sony comes from USA and costs 830 EUR incl tax if you order it in Germany.

I don't care at all about the old Android 4.4 on the Onyx Boox Max Carta and the security implications. I will create a backup of my sheet music on another device and viruses have NEVER been an issue for me on Android.

Sony has designated the device :
  1. only for a professional usage;
  2. where only PDF files are used;
  3. where the security of this documents is mandatory;
  4. where Linux is doesn't used.
Success for Sony. But, like you, the Sony device is useless for me.
