I didn't think to mention that the Larry Niven books I posted are all from Tor so they should be DRM free, but of course people may have other reasons to buy from other stores other than Amazon.

From Amazon, it can be difficult to get the non-kfx format DRM-free versions. From Kobo, they will actually be DRM-free whether you download epub or kepub.

2312 by Kim Stanley Robinson is on sale for $2 at Amazon and Kobo US (not B&N?)

Quote:
From the acclaimed author of New York 2140 and Red Mars, this NYT bestselling novel tells the story of a future where humanity has populated miraculous new habitats engineered across the solar system -- and the one death that triggers a precarious chain of events that could destroy it all.

The year is 2312. Scientific and technological advances have opened gateways to an extraordinary future. Earth is no longer humanity's only home; new habitats have been created throughout the solar system on moons, planets, and in between. But in this year, 2312, a sequence of events will force humanity to confront its past, its present, and its future.

The first event takes place on Mercury, on the city of Terminator, itself a miracle of engineering on an unprecedented scale. It is an unexpected death, but one that might have been foreseen. For Swan Er Hong, it is an event that will change her life. Swan was once a woman who designed worlds. Now she will be led into a plot to destroy them.

This is a repeat but it looks like most J.R.R. Tolkien books are on sale at Amazon and Kobo.

This is Tolkien Reading Day so it looks like Amazon and Kobo (possibly others) are having some big sales.

The Lord of the Rings (Complete) - $1.99 - Amazon
The Hobbit - $1.99 - Amazon 1 - Illustrated: Amazon 2
The Silmarillion - $1.99 - Amazon
History of Middle Earth Series - $1.99/ea - Amazon

There are a few at $2.99 or higher but those are not the majority.

Note that there are multiple versions of some of these books. You might want to double check your library to make sure you don't get a repeat. For example, I have 2 links to The Hobbit above. I already have one of them but it was the second I checked. There are also both omnibus and individual volumes of the Lord of the Rings available. You can get each individual volume for $1.99 or the complete version (link above) for $1.99.

If this sort of case comes up again, mention you can get them at Kobo and price match.

Amazon games with DRM. Same thing with graphics heavy eBooks. With graphics heavy eBooks, Amazon plays silly games with resolution and color (if the images are color).

The Immortality Thief (The Kystrom Chronicles Book 1) by Taran Hunt is $0.99

https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0B931593L...v_ov_lig_dp_it

Quote:
Far off the edge of human existence, beside a dying star lies a nameless ship abandoned and hidden, lost for a millennium. But there are secrets there, terrible secrets that would change the fate of humanity, and eventually someone will come looking.

Refugee, criminal and linguist Sean Wren is made an offer he knows he can’t refuse: life in prison, “voluntary” military service – or salvaging data in a long-dead language from an abandoned ship filled with traps and monsters, just days before it’s destroyed in a supernova. Data connected to the Philosopher’s Stone experiments, into unlocking the secrets of immortality.

And he’s not the only one looking for the derelict ship. The Ministers, mysterious undying aliens that have ruled over humanity for centuries, want the data – as does The Republic, humanity’s last free government. And time is running out.

In the bowels of the derelict ship, surrounded by horrors and dead men, Sean slowly uncovers the truth of what happened on the ship, in its final days… and the terrible secret it’s hiding.
