Extremely light and fast conversion

Hello, two questions:

Which is the lighter and faster ebook format for the kobo aura one ereader?

Could you post the best calibre setting to get an extremely light and fast conversion for that format? (I mean remove pictures, table of context, index and all the other stuff, leaving only the pure and simple text)

Many thanks

Convert to TXT will leave out pictures. Since TXT does not use an NCX, removal of NCX is automatic. OTOH inline TOC are not always identified nor appear in a separate file, so doing that automatic is not doable.
Come on, a few seconds with the Editor can easily do this mutilation

Removing the images. table of contents, indices, embedded fonts, etc. can be done using any epub editor. You could convert to txt but that would leave any table of contents, indices, etc. in the ebook and you would be back to editing to remove them. Not to mention that any italic, bold, etc. text would be lost in translation.

As for the size of the file? Since epub is a zip compressed container, the epub version of a text file will be quite a bit smaller than the uncompressed text file. My quick check on 5 epubs says the text files within the epub would be about 2.3 times larger when uncompressed.

Probably the fastest way to shrink your ebook collection would be to run the Modify Epub plugin with "Remove existing cover" option selected. For most of my epubs, the cover image is over 50% of the file size.

What is the point of the question? What are you trying to achieve? Are you trying to save space somewhere? Make conversion faster? Improve performance on the device? Or in some other way have a better experience on the device? The answer to what you are asking does depend on what you are actually trying to do.

Having said that...

I am of the opinion that either epub or kepub are the best formats for the Kobo devices. And that stripping out everything isn't going to make enough difference to anything to make it worthwhile doing. After all, if someone created a book with pictures in it, didn't they do it for a reason? Aren't the pictures part of the book and need to be seen? And reducing the size of the pictures is just going to make them blurry on the screen. The cover image is a bit different. Decreasing its size to save space can be sensible (but the cover images generated on the Kobo devices are fixed in size). There was a recent thread here asking about this.

Removing just about anything else is hard work. A lot of books have extra stuff at the back about other books, or a preview. There is no way to automatically remove these sections. You will need to do this manually. Same goes for things like the ToC page or copyright page.

I've noticed that the device runs well with all my ebooks turned in kepub format. Turning the books in epub I've seen it slower. So to avoid to try all the other formats, I asked here.

I sought to improve as much as possible the performance of the device, but if, simplifing the file, the result it's the same thing, I'll keep the kepub format

thanks
