Is there any way to download the free public domain books as epubs?

I know public domain books are free downloads from Project Gutenberg, but I'm specifically asking about the Kobo public domain books like Huckleberry Finn and Moby-Dick. I'd like to put them on my Nook. I have no problem copying purchased Kobo books onto my Nook, but there's no download link for the public domain ones.

B&N has a lot of the same books but they are not free. And I find that a lot of Project Gutenberg books are formatted poorly or are filled with spelling errors. I like the Kobo ones because they're generally pretty good and they have awesome covers.

So yeah, I found the kepub files on my computer, but I can't figure out which is which, they all have random strings of numbers and letters as their file names. Is this a hopeless cause, should I just pay the $4 or $5 for the B&N editions?

I like feedbooks, myself. There's also Googlebooks, Manybooks, Archive.org, really there are lots of options.

My favorite is Feedbooks, Google Ebooks is also good. Guttenberg is good but they don't have book covers (Not a problem if you have Calibre) You can't download free Kobo books as Epub.

Have you not looked at our own Patricia Clark Memoria library? Books can be downloaded in your choice of formats.

Click on links below to get yourself started.

Not to start a new thread but with the kobo wifi if I download and sideload an epub, doe a it display the page numbers on the right hand side border? How do sideloaded look compared to the touch? Just asking as the price is good in aus atm and trying towork out which to get.

The Wifi will have the numbers on the right side of sideloaded e-pubs with no option to turn them off. The Touch has an option to have them or turn them off.

Thanks guys, I downloaded the ones off epubbooks.com and they are pretty good versions with nice covers.

However, I downloaded the covers off that website as JPGs, and added them to the epubs in Calibre. But when I copied them to my Nook STR, the cover images don't show up. All the previous books I've added cover images to in Calibre show up on my Nook, so I'm not sure what the problem is. Anyone have any ideas?

Maybe ask in the Nook forum? The Kobo driver I wrote about earlier probably does not work when using a Nook.

Tec; did you try an ePub to ePub conversion after adding the covers to Calibre?

On the kobo bookstore website, they have a section on free ebooks. Quite a number of the free ebooks that came on your Kobo are available for download in the free ebooks section of their site.
