Agency pricing strikes again
I was just browsing the Kobo store when I notice the Millennium series by Stieg Larsson. A few months ago the price for "The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo" was $4.99 now its almost $12.00! Same with the rest of the series each one has gained at leas $5.

It's the result of the agency pricing model - Kobo no longer gets to set the price on most of the ebooks they carry.

Blame Penguin. Repeat after me: blame Penguin, blame Penguin, blame Penguin.
In Canada, the mass market paperback edition of the Steig Larsson books are $13.50. It gets worse, btw. Penguin has pulled the titles completely from Amazon for Canadian Kindle sales. The only ebook you can buy right now is the Kobo one. Blame Penguin. Which makes the title of this thread terribly misleading. |

@SensualPoet: As much as that may be the case, the general public/user wont know that so the title of this post to their mind is exactly how they will view things.

If you live in Canada, you are better off with a reader that does ePub via ADE then a Kindle given that there are a lot of eBooks not available via Amazon.
Am I getting the gist of things correct? And even if people don't know it's Penguin at fault, it still is Penguin at fault. |

Jon.. Could you *just try* to not bash Kindle every chance you get? This has nothing to do with Kindle and a lot to do with publishers.

Point taken, I didn't really know how bad the Agency pricing was until I did a bit of Googling. As you can see I changed the title of the thread to reflect more on what it is. I thought this article I found it was pretty interesting

It seems I can't change the title.

Again??? I thought they were done with this nonsense as of back last April when Agency pricing took effect in the U.S. Are they trying to force Canada into it now too? (Kobo's servers are in Canada, which is why I can't buy from them).

Random House is the only large publisher not using agency pricing in Canada, I believe.

It's funny, in the last six months or so, I've started buying more physical books than e-books.
Especially since Amazon makes it so easy, showing you both the new physical book price from them as well as other sellers. Latest example, a book on UFOs. Kindle edition, $16.99. Physical copy. $3.99. Okay, I had to pay for shipping, but still cheaper by about 60% |
