Having the dreaded "five minutes ago I told myself to look up something but I've forgotten what it is" moment. I know I'll remember what it was in half an hour or so when I've shut my computer down and I'm in bed. I think I either wanted to look up some make-up thing or a part or tool I need for installing my new tv.

That's why I never shut off my computer. It's on 24/7 except if I leave the house overnight.

Just reminded me that I have been meaning to look for a new laptop power-pack. Keep forgetting and switching off the PC - then remembering!

My wife has the phobia for leaving appliances plugged in over night, and goes round switching off and unplugging everything. V annoying, as I can't get my wi-fi signal in bed, and the Sky+ box gets software updates overnight and often misses them.

I would do that if the LED wasn't so ridiculously bright. I know I can switch the LED off in the bios but I can't be bothered.

At the moment I'm excited by the Amazon press conference today. I would love to have a front lit Kindle. Even if I won't allow myself to order it until the Dutch Amazon has it in stock (for that there first has to be a Dutch Amazon).

A drop of nail polish the next time you do your nails... Enough light will still get through, but it won't be bright. I have a digital clock beside my pillow that is bright enough to illuminate the Bat Cave. I took a couple of sheets of blue cellophane from a gift package and taped them over the clock face. Problem solved. Just bright enough to read the numbers now.

Just expanding/expounding on the point about leaving stuff on 24/7 (or not, in our case). And it wasn't me who ate your porridge - I'm dieting too, so it's a bowl of cherries this morning, then a diet shake for lunch. Yum (or not).

can anyone answer this question for me? it seems that the computer in my dad's office keeps getting viruses; it's a pretty old computer, but i think it runs windows vista. my dad wants to replace the computer with a new one but i'm not sure if that would be a good solution. what do you think? i wonder if it's due to the user or the actual system or both.

90% of the time it's in 'sleep' mode. I doubt if I spend more than $25 a year on the energy used by the computer. We probably spend more on the bread maker in one month!

The title of this thread is a bit misleading, as what all of us are doing when we respond to it is responding to it. Perhaps it should have been named "What Were You Doing Just Now" or "What Activity is Currently Being Interrupted so You Can Respond to this Thread?" At any rate, the only thing of note I just did was to change the batteries in my hearing aids.
