Have you voted for the Locus Awards yet? [Science Fiction & Fantasy]

EDIT: "ANTI-SHILL" POLICY

My own work is NOT listed here. This is strictly intended as a means to recognize deserving authors and works that might otherwise be overlooked.

The charge has often been leveled that Locus' Recommended Reading List influences the selections without reader feedback, but it is important to note that there is a mechanism in place for supporting works that did not receive notice from the publication.

Have you voted for the Locus Awards yet? If not, there is a compelling reason that you should consider doing so: Locus allows anyone to vote for their favorite Science Fiction and Fantasy works, rather than restricting the ballot to subscribers or a limited subset of the professional community.

What does that mean? Well, although the ballot is primarily composed of Locus' 2010 Recommended Reading List, you are not only allowed to write in your own choices, but encouraged to do so if you think they are worth the recognition.

You could even vote for a MobileRead author's work, as long as it qualifies as either science fiction or fantasy, and was first published in 2010.

Rules quoted from the online ballot:
Quote:
Locus Poll and Survey Ballot

Here is the online version of the 41st annual Locus Awards ballot, covering works that appeared in 2010.

In each category, you may vote for up to five works or nominees, ranking them 1 (first place) through 5 (fifth). Listed options in each category are based on our 2010 Recommended Reading List, with options in categories for editor, artist, magazine, and publisher including results of the past two years. You are welcome to use the write-in boxes to vote for any titles and nominees in any category.

You may use the blank boxes to fill in titles or nominees not included among the listed options -- in such cases, please supply author, title, and place of appearance. Do not vote for more than one item in a category at the same rank (e.g. two selections ranked 1st); if you do, we will disregard your votes in that category. Note that the Hugo and Nebula awards have somewhat different eligibility requirements; Locus Awards are open to publications or works that first appeared, anywhere in the world, during calendar year 2010. Feel free to leave some categories blank or partially blank, but try to fill in the entire survey. A free issue of Locus will be given for a filled-out ballot to subscribers of record when we count them in May, so please use the exact name on your subscription and your subscription number. Deadline for ballots is April 15, 2011.

The format of this year's online ballot is different from previous years', but the voting rules remain the same -- subscriber votes count double, but all votes will be counted, as long as you include your name, e-mail, and survey information (Locus does not sell e-mail lists) and do not violate voting rules.

If you prefer, you may print this page, fill it in by hand, and mail it to Locus Publications, PO Box 13305, Oakland CA 94661.

Anonymous ballots will not be counted. Please include your name and e-mail address with your submission.
And now, a couple of interesting statistics:
  • According to Locus' own numbers, their circulation is "Approximately 7,000 copies with a readership of about 22,000."
    — These votes are counted twice. Total possible votes = ~44,000
  • According to the forum stats (as of 12:50 PM, Eastern Time, 9 April 2011), MobileRead has 112,368 members... and that number is growing all the time.
    — These votes are counted once. Total possible votes = ~112,368+

You could select the winners of the Locus Awards.

And this comes, at best, very close to shilling for votes which is, to be kind, rather frowned on... and violates the intent and possibly the rules of voting for the Locus awards...

Thank you for the feedback. This was not intended as a personal shill at all... but to avoid causing offense by the fact that I included my own work as an example, I'll remove it from the list.

Edit: I've added this info as a preface at the top of the thread.

This is not intended as a self-promotion thread, and authors WILL NOT LIST THEIR OWN WORKS. If this happens, then this thread will be closed.

Thank you, Don! I agree, and approve (and I should have had the foresight to structure it that way in the first place).

Unfortunately I don't feel well enough read to vote, but these things are always interesting.

I appreciate the Locus Recommended Reading list though and will use it to add to my already overflowing To-Be-Read pile.

If only there was a single button to click to have all of those texts appear on my device, and then more buttons to click to send monies to those creators whose texts I most enjoyed. But as it stands I would have to click upwards of a hundred buttons, that is just too much IMO.
