Help setting up Max 2 for my Dad

Dad has poor eyesight now but he can still read if the font is large enough, so I got him a max 2 and I'm setting it up for him to read books and the newspaper. The device is enormous and looks like it will work great once it is setup.

Problems! Overall while the font size choices for reading books work great, I can't find any apps that allow control of the font size for their menu/settings/library to a readable size! If someone needs 50pt font to read a book, why would they be okay with 10pt fonts for the controls??

I've loaded the stock android settings and set "large text" under accessibility, but that isn't nearly enough.

Evaluation so far:

1. Boox Home page
"Now reading" looks great, easy to read title
"Recently added" is horrible, only unreadable book covers

2. Boox Library
Useless - 3 modes, book covers only, small covers and 12pt titles, tiny covers and 12pt titles. He'd need someone else to find the next book for him.

3. Kindle app
-can't set as default ereader in library, useless

4. Neo Reader v2.0
-all menus/controls are small fonts
-can't disable highlighting/reduce menu clutter
+he could memorize how to change font size

5. Librera
+good control over highlighting/menu clutter
-can't change icon sizes in menus
-settings are in super tiny font, no way he could change font size

6. FBReader
-settings use a grey-on-dark-grey theme that is almost unreadable on the boox
+he could memorize how to change font size

7. Moon+ Reader
+some control over menu clutter
-small fonts on all settings
-library font size is tiny and cant be changed

Newspapers:
New York Times app - jumbo text size is way too small
New York Times in Kindle - good text size in stories, summary page text is too small

Any suggestions for more visually-impaired-friendly reader software?
Any suggestions for a usable newspaper?

Thanks,
Otto

I think if this kind of visual impairment your best way is to change the logical DPI settings of Android. If the Max2 is set to render at 200 (logical) DPI, setting that to 100 should make every visual element four times as large. (Otherwise, when we develop an application we decide what can be scaled and what not.) You can do it at least with the command

`adb shell wm density 100`

after which reboot the device.
Other methods to do the same may be available.
