Frontlight - Kindle Basic and New Paperwhite
Hi,
does anybody know if the frontlight can be disabled completely for the Kindle Basic and New Paperwhite without a low after glow. There were problems with earlier Kindles that an afterglow was still available. |

On the PW3, there’s a slight glow and if I look down on it from an extreme angle I can see the individual LEDs. |

I have the newest Paperwhite, and see no light at all when it's turned all the way down. I even stepped into a dark closet to check. The newest Paperwhite is the 4th version/gen.

Please note that the front light will not shut off when the text is inverted. (White font on a black background, accessed from accessibility options).
This applies to the Paperwhite 4. Don't have a basic Kindle to check. Note sure if it was, or ever will be, fixed on the latest firmware. |

You can get a Kobo Reader that allows you to shut off the light even if the text is inverted.

Agreed, just wanted the original poster to be informed. I've grown accustomed to dark mode from most of my smartphone apps, so I was surprised when I found the light remained on. Fortunately, it gets very dim so you wouldn't notice it in the daylight.
